The Never Ending Saga In The Cariboo- Prince George Conservative Riding
Now that the candidates have been given the list of members of the Conservative party in the riding of Cariboo- Prince Gorge a brand new set of problems arise for Shari Green.
After taking over the executive of the riding association earlier this year and beginning a campaign to take over the MP’s spot from Dick Harris , it looked like clear sailing , well that was until T.J. Grewal threw his hat into the ring. To no one’s surprise Grewal had support, strong support, in this community and region .
Well that strong support didn’t help much when the Party, either the local executive or the locals in tandem with the federal group in Ottawa, decided to sink Grewal. It was an easy enough task , Grewal obtained his membership, in May right after the new “selective’ executive had taken over the riding. Being a member of the Party was not a new move for Grewal, afterall, he had been a member years before, and at one time had been on the Riding Association’s executive. Who called the nomination date close , we may never know, but Ottawa and the local riding executive did nothing to support a waiver for Grewal , who was a week short of being eligible because of the nomination date.
It should be noted that as of yesterday, no date has been announced as to when that nomination election will take place, so you might want to ask, what was the rush in the first place?
If it was designed to take T.J. out of the running it failed miserably because he had already picked up around 1500 memberships, enough to either take the riding, or failing that, having the ability to be the King maker on who gets the nod. You can be assured that Grewal won’t be handing over his support to Green. He had to sit on the sidelines while the waiver appeal was launched and there were no letters of support from either the Riding Association Executive on which Green had sat before throwing her name into the ring , or the President of the Riding Association, Cameron Stolz.
There are 3150 odd memberships that have been sold and people are sitting with a card. If you consider that there are two others in the race, Todd Doherty, and Nick Fedorkiw, and if they have been able muster up even 600 to 800 memberships of support, that, added to the 1500 that Grewal has, makes it a pretty tough task to get the nod without his support.
Now you are not going to get Todd Doherty to support Shari Green, Grewal sure as hell won’t, so even if by some special means Green was able to bring Fedorkiw onto her side, come election night she will need to be looking for a new line of work because her political career will have all but vanished.
Had the Fed’s had the fortitude to treat T.J. Grewal in a reasonable manner then the whole matter would have played out in a democratic manner, and I say that in a loosely fashion. But It didn’t and so now the members, along with T.J. Grewal can just sit back and smile,. because they are now the King makers.
I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.
Comments
I can’t wait to hear the last of Green and Stolz.
Go Nick !
The numbers don’t make sense. I suspect Shari does not have the support she has been saying. The only way she can win is to split the vote, or team up. Who will take the bait?
This will be interesting!
Well said, Ben! I suspect that Shari Greens campaign strategy changed significantly at a certain point from selling memberships to discrediting and disqualify her opponents in order to win. Her dismal popularity and poor political record would make even the worlds best salesman hang his head in defeat. IMO she is in full crisis mode now and will be lashing out at her remaining opponents. Political integrity was never one of Greens strong points and add in Dan McLaren, Stolz and Marshall Smith into the mix and you have enough political dysfunction to choke a bear.
This cannot be a three way race, TJ Grewals decision will set the tone. He will make the right decision for the community, everyone then needs to get behind that decision and help end her misguided political ambitions for good.
Veritas…..right call!
Green bringing on Dan McLaren and Marshal Smith is like a drowning person grabbing an anchor to save herself….
I do like her choosing tho :)
Yes, very well put Ben and thank you for keeping us abreast on this very important subject.
We know that politics can be a dirty game, but to be as dirty and down right low as these people (executive and Green) have been conducting themselves to date, even before an election, is scary. I support Todd, but am disappointed in the way that TJ was treated.
As a Conservative member, i am also perplexed as to why the Feds or Executive have not announced a defined voting date (supposedly around Dec 15th) and a designated address to vote in each respective town. Not fair to avid party supporters.
Thanks
Ditto, Go Nick!
I had to buy a membership just to vote against Ms. Green she needs to go to greener pastures. She has proven over and over you can’t trust a thing she says and she will just listen to her friends and special interest groups, she will mow you over to get what her friends want
I agree this really pisses me off…. backroom politics by Green and non-democratic treatment to TJ. I hope she fails miserably.
When is king tj going to say who he is supporting?
Hopefully soon Shari has been hanging out at the Sikh temples trying to get any support she can.
So 3150 memberships have been sold. So the question is to who??? Unless one looks at the membership list they cannot make a determination as to who is a member, and who they may or may not support.
To underestimate Green at this point would be foolish.
To assume that TJ has signed up 1500 members and has the ability to determine how these people will vote is open to debate.
If Federkiw is on the bottom after the first ballot where does his support go.?? If he supports Green, will it be enough to nullify whatever number of votes TJ brings to the table??
Having 3150 members doesn’t mean that 3150 will turn up to vote. In fact I would guess that significantly less will actually vote.
So in a lot of respects this race is wide open.
Anyone who wants to ensure that Green doesn’t make it, had better get off their butts, and vote,.
Could the folks who set the deadline so as to exclude Grewal have intended this result? That is, could this actually be a subtle tactic by anti-Green forces?
You bet. Otherwise one would have to think that they were too dumb to see the consequences of their actions.
Did TJ’s supporters actually join the party before they knew whether or not he would be a contender??? If not, would they still join after he was eased out?? Who knows.
I didn’t think TJ had that much support. However, the first paragraph says that he does.. did 250 see the list or?
Anyways, this is dirty pool. Hope for decency to prevail.
I agree, Palopu! Sadly, voter turn out in any contest is poor, but IMO the saving grace in this particular one is that Shari Green is one of the worst politicians in the history of our region and is so widely disliked that for a huge number of people, casting a vote against her will be an absolute privilege.
I personally really like Todd Doherty, he’s smart, dynamic and has an amazing ability to connect well with people. He also has a great relationship with other current political leaders that will be essential in moving our region forward. I’m hopeful that Mr. Grewal will choose to throw his support behind him.
Seems to me Grewal should throw his support behind Green, making it clear to his supporters he intends to run as an independent, and it’s important the “weakest” candidate gets the conservative nomination, making it easier for him to win the riding as an independent. With the recent history of minority governments, it’s conceivable Grewal could find himself courted by both parties, and could actually end up with some real influence to help out our region, vs another – yes Mr. Harper, MP. At the very least we’d have an MP who would be allowed to say what he thinks, and vote how he wants.
One thing about this guy – not in it for the money – has lots, not in it for the fame – he’s been pretty low key up until now. Shari on the other hand – definitely in it for the cash, and definitely loves the spotlight – she reminds me of Madonna in Evita when she sang “you must love me.”
The low numbers are good news for Nicholas Fedorkiw, because it is clear that his opponents have not mustered anywhere near their claimed support. TJ Grewal is most certainly in the kingmaker role, as are those long time Conservatives who are having their votes courted most assertively by the three candidates. One caveat that should be considered is that there may well be list errors and the correction of these may well become an issue in determining the victor. Who says politics can’t be interesting in a relatively safe Conservative seat?
My vote is with Nick. He is bright, energetic, and experienced. His work in finance and in renewable energy will be strengths for this region. He understands renewable and non-renewable resources, economics and conservation. He’s got deep roots in the central interior and he doesn’t need a job. He has also built broad support across the riding in the EDA and he’s no toadie. Fedorkiw will make a fine CPC representative for Cariboo-Prince George.
Good stuff get out the big knives and go at it. At ypical sceniario for the PC’a. and they want to stay in government when they are trying to kiill each other.. Good luck.
Cheers
I hereby endorse Todd Doherty, After getting to know Todd I believe he really cares about the region and the people (urban and rural) and will listen to suggestions and concerns, and will try to do the best to represent this constituency at the big house in Ottawa. He shoots from the hip and talks about “us” and “we” when referring to the political future and growth of the – Prince George Region. Todd is by far the onevote for!!!!! Go Todd Go!!!! Many of us are behind you all the way!!!!!
COPIED FROM THE NORTHERN LIGHT NEWS PAPER FROM VANDERHOOF Nov 13/2014 edition
Does this really describe this candidate? Is she that more experienced than her rivals? I think she believes it.
Green Will Seek Nomination for Federal Conservatives in Cariboo-Prince George Riding
On November 5, 2014, in Prince George, Shari Green released the following statement:
“I am announcing today I am seeking the nomination of the Conservative Party of Canada for the Cariboo-Prince George riding. I made the announcement in Vanderhoof this morning, followed by Prince George, Quesnel and this evening in Williams Lake.
I have been gauging support and listening to members throughout the riding. Conservative Party members have an important choice to make. When like-minded people are competing, political experience, demonstrated decision-making, and a strong fiscal record differentiate the contestants. Given the emerging strategic importance of this riding, Cariboo-Prince George will expect much more from their Member of Parliament, and they want a new team to support that strong and experienced, but fresh and present voice in Ottawa.
The variety of knowledge, skills, work experience and governance background that I have will give residents the confidence they need, to know they will be choosing the best Conservative candidate for Cariboo-Prince George. I am committed to ensuring Conservatives retain this seat in next year’s federal election.
I have also taken a leave of absence from the riding’s Board of Directors for the duration of the contest.
It has been an honour and privilege to serve as Mayor of Prince George and I look forward to serving the entire region with passion, commitment and a strong work ethic. I will see my Mayoral duties through to the end of my term in just a few short weeks.”
@ Dirtyrottenresearcher LOL Perhaps you should recalibrate your spin machine! The low numbers are NOT good news for Fedorkiw. It confirm as earlier reported that he has less support than Green, and I’m stretched to figure out where her numbers are? I predict that a huge percentage of those membership are split between Mr. Gerwal and Todd Doherty. Political drama at its best!
@ tackdog What that tells me is that she has an over inflated narcissistic ego, poor advisers and one hell of a script writer…
Nick Fedorkiw is in it to win and not to make any deals. He has been honest all through regarding memberships collected unlike other candidates. If there are 3150 memberships and deducting Mr. Grewal’s supporters Fedorkiw comes out as the strongest candidate. Mr. Grewal’s supporters have the right like any other member of the CPC to have a saying in this and will hopefully make the right decision. If the decision will be a wise one Mr. Grewal will find a lot of support if he has future political ambitions. For the sake of this area get united behind Fedorkiw because he is your best choice !
A friend of mine asked Nick a few key questions the other day when he was going to indiviual households. Very interesting , he could not answer simple questions, My concern is no experience ??????? How will he answer to the media? Will his supporters have to guide him and tell him what to say and when? Just sayin!!!!When I talked to him later I heard him say “I” hmmmmmm
Agreed GG2491, I heard some disturbing things about this candidate also, which makes me wonder about his integrity and actual dedication to the people in this riding.
Will he still stay living in his riding, if he does win?
Has in if fact been advising his followers that should he not make the 1st ballot, to throw in with the Green Party?
This is quite scary
GG 2491 and Tackdog you fellows are goofy and a prime example of the style of one of the other camps. Do you really think you can influence any CPC members with this unsubstantiated stuff ? Just keep it clean. Not even a nice try, Fedorkiw would never ever throw it in with Green. Would be the end of any political career. I forgot the name of the other candidate, the ex airport and ex games employee, I sure hope it’s not coming out of his corner.
Quite honestly Philomena, your remark that you don’t even know who the other candidate is concerns me. I took the time to meet all four potential candidates over the last year, to examine their personalities, intelligence and leadership qualities because it was important to do so. So my question is, why didn’t you?
Seems to me that in order to make this an honest contest, it would then be your responsibly as a member to consider all options. That in itself is a value to our democracy.
Seems a bit scary to think TJ can sway all “His people” to the direction he wants them to vote, but I guess each to their own.
Personally I think we have:
Shari who is well…………….NOOOOOO!!!
Nick who is nice guy to talk to, but no real depth and seems to be more about himself. I have heard 90% of politicians are about themselves, but I don’t want to add to the collection. I think if he gets in, we will never see him again, but he might prove me wrong. The rumour about Nick working with Shari, I am not 100% convinced about, but again we will see. I also don’t really think Nick has much support but I could be wrong.
Todd is interesting, has a local family and a local history. If you talk to business people, who have met him they feel he is a straight shooter. The business people who say not nice things about him have never meet him. Hmm…interesting.
I suggest if you can, go talk to all of them and make up your own mind.
Get lost Green!!! We don’t want you in politics in the Prince George area or anywhere else. We know who you are from putting up with your antics for 3 years as the worst and most high priced mayor PG has ever had. Thankfully, we have a competent individual in Lyn Hall now.
This all great new as the Liberals and NDP will be laughing all the way to 2015.
Cheers
Well, got a call tonight from Green’s campaign asking who I would vote for and they informed me how much political experience she has and she was a solid business owner….Also said she made solid decisions as a mayor of PG.
Do you really know how hard it is to be civil about that woman? It is not the callers fault so I remained polite. Damn it was tough. I did have to interrupt the lady caller saying I have not made up my mind yet of who to vote for.
Ok, 2 calls now, one from Green’s and one from Doherty, So I can expect 1 or two more?
For all you that wanted people to join – it is time for you yahoos to figure out who the top runner is. lol
I have also been trying to do my own homework….Just to keep Green out!
If the choice was between Doherty and Green just by the phone calls – it would definitely not be Green as the called from a private cell phone, at least Doherty had his name come up on call display.
