The Voting Begins in Cariboo-Prince George Tory Nomination Race

votePrince George, B.C. – Voting begins today in a two day process,  to select the Conservative candidate for the federal riding of Cariboo- Prince George.

Three people are vying for that position, Shari Green, Nick Fedorkiw, and Todd Doherty.

Those who have a valid membership to the Conservative Party and who  live in the riding,  will  be able to vote for their first and second choice on the ballot.

Voting will start in Quesnel today at the Sandman Hotel ( Banquet Room) on Chew Road in Quesnel.  Doors open at 10:15  am, candidates will make  speeches  starting at 10:45, registration and voting will be open from 11:00 am to 1:00 p.m.

In Williams Lake,  the voting will take place later today at the Thompson Rivers University (cafeteria) on Western Avenue in Williams Lake.  Doors will open  at 4:15, candidates will start their speeches at 4:45 and  registration and voting will start at  5:00 pm  and continue until 7 p.m.

Tomorrow, December 13th,  the  voting moves to the Vanderhoof Arena (Mezzanine) on Columbia Street East in Vanderhoof.  Doors will open at 9:30 a.m., candidate speeches are set  to start at 10 am,  registration and voting will take place from 10:15 am to 12:15 pm.

The vote moves to Prince George later on Saturday, at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club.  Doors open at  2:45 PM, candidate speeches begin at 3:15 PM, registration and voting are open from 3:30 PM – 8:30 PM.

The voting procedure allows eligible  voters, to  cast a ballot for their favorite candidate and them only, or for  a first and  second choice.

The successful candidate will need 50% plus 1 vote of the valid votes cast to be declared the winner.

If there is no winner in the first ballot then the nomination contestant who has the fewest number of votes will be removed from the list and their ballots will be redistributed to the other contestants based on the second choice indicated on the ballot. Once this is done, a second count of the ballots will be made to determine a winner.

Each nomination contestant will be allowed one scrutineer in Quesnel, Williams Lake and Vanderhoof, two each in Prince George.

The ballot box security will comprise of an inspection by contestants prior to being put into use and each ballot box will be sealed in front of contestants and the box will then be placed in the care of the returning officer.

The public and the media can attend the Prince George Golf and Curling club after 8:30 pm Saturday . It is expected the ballot counting will take about 90 minutes.
