I have been honored to volunteer for the TODD Doherty next MP AND i have to say WHAT A BREATH OF FRESH AIR WHAT A GREAT FAMILY MAN WHO SINCERELY CARES MY CHRISTMAS WISH IS TODD IS OUR NEXT MP HE IS SO HUMBLE AND KIND AND HONEST I AM THANKFUL TO KNOW HIM

Interesting story about how a life long Alberta Tory has turned his back on Harper, and plans to run as a Liberal in the next election.

http://www.straight.com/news/787466/stephen-fuhr-how-lifelong-conservative-supporter-ended-running-justin-trudeaus-liberals

Slower traffic, keep right except to pass people!! Not sure why so many people have trouble with this. We learnt this getting our licence as well as signs on roads…
So many inconsiderate drivers feel the need to back up traffic, causing jams, accidents etc.. Because they just stay puttering along in the passing lane.
You want to drive slow (under speed limit) go to the right lane!!!!! Jeez…

Good to see Pacific Western Helicopters on Cowart Road shutting down. How they ever got a license to open a heliport in a residential area , right below an elementary school is beyond. Then got permission to expand is preposterous.
When the student and three others were killed by a helicopter crash in Cranbrook(on a residential street)I approached several government agencies asking to have it moved or shutdown, and was given attitude. At the same time on a radio call in show they stated we never could have that happen in Prince George.I set the record straight.
Helicopters used to rise over the Fraser river then travel directly over College Heights Elementary and over my house. Took a lot of agitation to get that changed.

Here is the incident in 2008

pg80 I am curios to know where you live cuzz here in PG finding a vehicle going slower than the speed limit is about as rare as finding a four leaf clover in winter. ☻

Hartly 2

Yeah your right Hartly 2. Unfortunately periodically you get a couple of dick head drivers that are probably “control freaks” getting what I am assuming a kick out of keeping both lanes at or under the speed limit. Totally oblivious to the fact that they are putting lives at risk with their actions. RCMP should be targeting these people when they notice traffic backed up in both lanes.

Just a thought!

@GG2491…
I have been volunteered to ask, how are you related to Todd DOHerty ?

Good luck with that. The average PG driver is either too stupid to comprehend the regulation or their sense of entitlement is such that they figure they’ll do as they please regardless of how it impacts those around them.

For all those who argue they’re entitled to the left land “because I’m doing the speed limit”, the regulation is, “Keep Right Except To Pass”; it’s not “Keep Right Except To Pass Unless You’re Doing The Speed Limit”.

Ben needs to rename this weekly thread to “Let’s Bitch About Drivers Friday”.

I saw a bunch of pretty christmas lights up at the railway museum….what’s the news on that? Do they have opening hours, do they charge to enter? How on earth can they afford the power bill?

all that hooplah about the flu vaccine
Nothern Health demanding people get it..
and CDC admits it doesn’t work…

http://www.naturalnews.com/047955_flu_shot_CDC_vaccine_industry.html

If there is a sign that states slower traffic move to right lane then yes they should follow the rules so were in town are there signs for that.

Sure is a lot of job loses in the PG region lately. Must be over 2000 high paid mining jobs that have vanished in the last 6-months. It goes to show the fickle nature of an economy based solely on resource extraction. One has to think this will have an impact on PG in the near term as suppliers and workers feel the cut backs.

Also with the dollar dropping like a stone now south of 87 cents to the American dollar… one has to consider the central bank may need to raise interest rates to support the dollar. What will that do to capital and the housing market once that comes down the pipe is probably not going to be good.

IMO the barrel of oil dropping below $60 is a harbinger of a new reality for the financial world, and when risk gets repriced then markets are going to start demanding more. Interest rates clearly will be going up and likely faster than most people are prepared to contemplate… what will the city of PG be doing to insure we are adequately prepared to service that massive debt the City of PG has been carrying… I think how the city manages this will determine in large part if PG has a future that involves growth, or more stagnant decline.

The “right lane to pass” does not refer to IN TOWN LIMITS …

How about this? If you’re doing the same speed as the car to your right then you are a dick regardless of the rules.

Can anyone else see my post from 12:42 this morning?

No 12:42 posting on my screen?

Google Stephen Fuhr Liberal, and see why a lifelong Alberta Tory has turned his back on Stephen Harper and will be running for the Liberals in the next election.

Eagle one>> Our oil patch sells in US dollars…when the Can $ falls they make more money. Perhaps the fall of the Canadian $ was planned to keep them sustainable through this price drop??

The “right lane to pass” does not refer to IN TOWN LIMITS …

————

Depends. The Hart Highway from where it becomes 4 lanes(Chief Lake Road) to the John Hart Bridge is IN TOWN LIMITS and is clearly marked with numerous signs.

Well said axeman!!
If you want to enjoy the scenery, doddle and ho hum, stay in the right lane. Plain and simple…
And buzzinga, there doesnt have to be signs everywhere in town to follow the rules of driving as we learn in our motor vehicle branch tests.
I dont see seatbelt signs all over town so does that mean in town its fine to not wear one? Nope. Just as all other rules dont need signs…
Another good reason is for emergency vehicles. So many times these slow drivers, doddling in that lane stop and waste precious time for these vehicles to have a clear lane.
Stay to the right, pretty easy…. So not sure why this is such a problem!! Arg…

axeman
there are speed, stop and yield signs also posted that don’t seem to be obeyed either.
we take our lives into our ownhands everytime we leave home

I hope all you folks complaining about the drivers are not one of those a-plenty that drive without lights on in the fog…full lights! not auto. I saw so many yesterday with just running lights as well. what is with you? too cheap on the headlights

Costco gas was at $.989 yesterday. Been a long time since we saw that price!

herbster: No, its not there.

All the perfect drivers are out posting today I see. None of them have ever broken a driving law. How noble of them…lol

I have driven all across Canada, and you know what? Everywhere has drivers that could learn from a driving class or two. You only have to drive well once in your life….when taking your drivers test.. After that it’s free for all ;)

Have a great weekend everyone..be safe out there

———

There is a big difference between breaking the occasional traffic law and being one of those drivers who goes out of their way to piss off every body around them. Move to the right and let the traffic flow. If someone wants to speed, why not let them? Is your manhood really in question when someone passes you?

Last post from me today; I don’t want to be “gussed” again for posting too much.

Have a safe weekend everyone! The roads are going to be icy once the temperature drops.

so it’s okay to break the occasional traffic law is it? Lol. Thanks for the laugh. Is your manhood really in question when you have to speed? Or can’t you tell time so have to speed to get where your going..or maybe it’s both. What if someone only occasionally drives slow in the left…is that okay? Hehe. To easy. :)

axman: “There is a big difference between breaking the occasional traffic law and being one of those drivers who goes out of their way to piss off every body around them.”

I don’t think they’re actively trying to piss others off. I think it’s more about people who are just completely oblivious to their surroundings, and think the world revolves around them. I see these types all over town, especially in the malls, coffee shops, and grocery stores.

The malls, they are always in the malls.
So many Narcissists.

I hate malls…

Less Stress staying in the right Lane, no Tailgating that way, only move in the left for turning left, let all the “Good and Better Drivers” pass to Ticket Heaven” .Comments From a not Agressive Driver!

Changing the subject….. Raw Log Exports! Western Forest Products is shutting down another sawmill, the latest one is their Ladysmith Sawmill. Their reason is that lumber sales to China has grown too soft. This will thrown another 70 plus forest workers out of work, while Western Forest Products will be able to increase their raw log exports. I feel this is a crime, we have lost thousands of good paying forestry jobs under the Liberals reign, but the trees are still falling just as fast. They just are not being processed here in B.C.

Just wondering why the Christmas tree in the departure area at the airport is not a natural tree. Instead it is plastic. Isn’t Prince George the Spruce Capital. Sure too bad to watch the old ways get left behind.

I see your post Herbster, and will go to that website you recommended.

Very refreshing article Herbster. I hope more people start realizing what a dangerous person Harper is. Even though I wanted to be able to vote in the Cariboo-PG nomination meeting, I just could not bring myself to but a membership. Those little kind of things can come back and haunt you.

Sorry, meant “buy” a membership.

Good morning to all you people up in George its me from Soggy Flats. Nice sunny day in Abby 8c. Seems all your snow has melted and beat the City to the Punch. They just cant seem to win.

And to all those noms that think Abby is lotus land give your head a shake. It a place where people work and go to church the same as PG. Probably a few more churches but that’s OK and they don’t seem to whine about bad drivers that we have more of then PG.

For those of you who were wondering last week Friday about places to hike. We also have the Discovery Trail that goes through Abbotsford within walking distance form our home and I deek out each morning and have a park to walk in with a pond in it the centre with waterfowl galore.

It is a shame that the Ginter Meadow where I walked for a number of years is now a Dog Park to crap in. I had to check my shoes each time I came home. What a great place for a park that could equal Ft George Park.

The Georgia Straight is my home page and I got the story about this PC desertion. What a mess. Oh well Doherty will ben able to straighten out the mess the PC’s created. Better go now. Don’t want to be accused of attention grabbing.
Cheers

Thanks for the link herbster . I wish we had some one like Mr. Fuhr in my riding . Unfortunately the rest of harpers gaggle are little more than sheep with their brains in braises . If they have any at all .

Last night I received a phone call from a young lady at the Citizen trying to get me to buy a subscription on that paper. She called me on my cell phone that is not listed anywhere. How did she get my number? Is that not illegal?

Regarding this debate about keeping right except to pass. Four lane city roads are designed for traffic volume capacity. NOT speed.

Per the Ministry of Transportation:

“On multi-lane roadways, the standard is to use the “Slower Traffic Keep Right” sign. Using the “Keep Right Except to Pass” sign tends to force drivers into the right lane which is not desirable on high volume urban highways where all lanes must be used to handle capacity.”

The extra lane is for capacity. Not for your speeding pleasure.Imagine the backups if all urban traffic stayed in the curb lane, not to mention taking your life in your hands to get into the left lane to slow it down to make a left turn onto your residential street.

Keep right except to pass applies to freeways and highways, out of urban areas.

Common sense people … common sense.

A lot of dog owners will be just amazed, that dog shit that they buried under the snow with a flick of their boot, has mysteriously reappeared. I have always wondered about the personal hygiene of people who don’t pick up after their pooch.

The new AFN chief has declared Canada is Indian land, fun times ahead. The chief is also saying the transparency law has to be challenged.

Seamut, did you read where they just found a non native skull proving the natives weren’t here first.. Oh oh.

Well turning left the slow drivers have to be in the left lane so be it not like the drivers are that cautious to let someone in when they like to double the speed limit.

Taking a break from the Harper-hating for a moment…

I don’t know whose job it is, whether it’s BC Hydro or the City, but could we send a crew around to cut down all the shoes hanging from powerlines? This seems to be a growing epidemic, and it cheapens the look of the neighborhood. And with the Games coming to town, we want to look our best.

I know this is what the gangsters in town use to mark their territory, but could they maybe use Google Maps or a Facebook page? That would be greatly appreciated.

In a closed meeting Dec 5/14 3 people were named for Council Committee Membership Appointments in regards to Variance.

Board of Variance
 Ashley Elliot (term ending March 31, 2015)
 David McWalter (term ending March 31, 2015)
 Kathleen Petrovic (term ending March 31, 2015)

I. Why does this have to be a closed meeting?
2. What is secretive about membership appointments?
3. Why are two of the named people Ashley Elliot and David McWalter appointed as both are from L & M?

Question is: Does this not constitute a conflict of interest whenever L & M is in front of council? To me this would be a perceived conflict of interest. I know McWalter said in a council meeting he was retired, yet he has sat as a representative for an applicant.

The latest Travel Expense summary report on the city website shows 3 council members spent over $7,000 to go to the UNBC Conference in Sept/2014. Note they all drove separately.

Various dates Sept 20-26, 21-26,22-26 and klm 1386, 1300 and 1274 were claimed.

Why is a set amount not given to anyone that attends these functions?
Was there not more than three that attended?
Why are taxpayers paying for so many to attend?

Wonder when there will be more accountability? I know when I have had to travel for work I am given a set amount to work with and the amount covers the expenses with no problems…

No more of a conflict than receiving City contracts when you are a major campaign supporter of the previous mayor.

Thanks, BCGrog some people just don’t seem to get it. I guess they are just small town ideas.
Cheers

In September 2014 L & M presented to council stating 46 applications between 2010 and 2014 came before council asking council to waive the requirement for concrete sidewalks and underground wiring. Approval was given unanimously for all of these!

If a requirement doesn’t meet the pre-existing standards of a neighbourhood, it can also be waived. The majority of the applications were approved by planning.

More control for planning now?

Not necessarily a case by case situation on the most part which allows less input from the taxpayers of the city?

There is a big change to bylaws next council meeting.

What conference did UNBC have in September out of town?

And where out of town?

Gas is down to 92.4 out here. We were either the same as PG or a little bit higher all year, so don’t be surprised to see another price drop out your way soon.

NMG….that’s good. The Senators should buy a few extra litres….cause there out of gas.

they’re

Billposer and Hummer ; Sorry thanks for catching that it should read UBCM not UNBC.

Thanks to 250News for bring back the CBC news feed! I find it much nicer then the CP one.

BCGrog” I always thought that freeways were built for traffic volume also. Is it just too hard for you to drive in the right lane unless you are passing a slower driver or making a left hand turn. If you have two people driving side by side doing the same speed how is that making the traffic volume better? Try making a left turn off ferry onto ospika south. Now not only do you have to cross two lanes of north bound traffic, but now you have to contend with the left lane idiots driving south before you can procede. COMMON SENSE COMMON SENSE

Why are the comments closed on the conservative election story?
Did it get out of hand?
F me , must have missed some good trash talking.

There is a 3-way stop signs intersection – coming up from the lower level of the Parkwood Mall. leaving the parking lot of the Bay, leaving the upper parking lot past the movie theatre.

Almost got broadsided tonight by someone who was unaware of the added stupid one coming up from the lower level! This one is hard to see and totally unnecessary! I have no idea who looks after those signs, but something must be done, the sooner the better!

I can not believe one of the biggest vehicle dealers in the area can be so irresponsible , today I received a ” aluminum padded envelope ” inside was a “ONE SIDED flyer ” Postage God knows how much , what are these Guys thinking….. WASTE WASTE WASTE….

They were as childish as the politicians in the house! :)

BCGrog way to take only a portion of a FAQ to change the context to suit your driving style
The original is:

Why don’t you use the “Keep Right Except to Pass” sign instead of the “Slower Traffic Keep Right” sign on multi-lane highways?
On multi-lane roadways, the standard is to use the “Slower Traffic Keep Right” sign. Using the “Keep Right Except to Pass” sign tends to force drivers into the right lane which is not desirable on high volume urban highways where all lanes must be used to handle capacity. Outside of B.C., the “Keep Right Except to Pass” sign is used on passing and climbing lanes on 2 lane rural highways.

So you see they use the “slower traffic keep right” sign so not ALL traffic is forced into the right lane. But the sign still applies – slower traffic keep right.

Hopefully they do some clarification as they have promised to the Act

Many dangerous drivers travelling hwy 16 west of PG, see them every day. You morons are the reason so many people die on our highways. Please forgive me when I run you over in my big rig because I couldn’t avoid it due to your idiocy. My goodness but there are so many stupid people permitted to have drivers licences.

To all the road ragers who keep spouting about keep to the right, don’t you realize you can’t change other people’s thinking? Why don’t you have a good look at yourselves and figure out why you are so angry about this? It’s not a big deal in whole scheme of things.

Dragonmaster, I think it’s mostly because kids have been observing their parents driving habits, so, another generation learns……….

Dragonmaster, I too drive hwy 16 west of PG a lot. Actually since 1978. In fact a good percentage of the “morons” that you so speak of are the non professional, professional drivers on the hwy. They think that their dicks are as big as their rigs and they can rule the road. My most scariest moments on hwy 16 west involve encounters with the “big rigs”. Don’t get me wrong, they are not all bad, the drivers from Lomak and Bandstra are very professional.

Considering some of your own questionable driving habits you have mentioned on your posts when you point the finger of blame at other drivers and call them morons there are three fingers pointed right back at you drag! And seeing how you drive the biggest vehicle that wouuld make you the biggest……

Like when you said a 4 wheeler ran you out of road- still wondering if you are Thelma or Louise.

Don’t worry though as you decend the ladder of success from tradesman to trucker only a couple more steps before you are sized for the blue vest. In between you can look forward to driving taxi and a vehicle with a pizza box on the roof.

———

I know why it makes me angry; people that continually drive in the wrong lane are hazards and I like to avoid hazards. Driving is a lot less stressful when you’re not stuck behind some oblivious, self-centered yahoo. Besides, if I can convince just one person to move over I’ll be happier. :)

I’m not sure how wanting the traffic to flow smoothly makes me a “road rager” though.

bruno

I am sure some of those chip truck drivers can’t remember the way to the pulp mill from one trip to the next. If you pull out to pass you have to pass both trucks as they follow each other so close like a couple of elephants nose to butt there is not enough room to safely pull in between them.

“NMG….that’s good. The Senators should buy a few extra litres….cause there out of gas”

================================

Yeah, their season is slowing slipping away from them. 0.500 is a one way ticket to nowhere in today’s NHL.

I agree completely bruno. Many class 3 and higher drivers out there are included in my comments above. There are many top notch company drivers out there as you have noted above as well. Please forgive some of the other comments below yours, they are from internet trolls. Sure is a safe place to want to put yourself hey Dodo? Right between two large trucks? Does that get you to your destination quicker Dodo, cutting off truckers?

Dodo are you a stalker? I’m flattered how you are keeping track of my life’s escapades. Should I send you a christmas card?

Ben and Elaine, I for one would like to thank you for this site. I think its fantastic! All the hard work you have put in to make it what it is, is much appreciated by a lot of us.
As it nears Christmas and the end of another year, my wishes for you and yours is that you are here for many more. I hope too that good fortune and health accompanies you for all that time.
That extends to all your staff as well.
Thanks for a great site!

Axman – that is total BS. Whether someone drives in the right or the left lane is not a hazard. I suspect you are raging because you can’t speed past the right lane driver. Chill out man!

X2 Give more!

It seems the greatest concern for people living on the north end of town is how fast they can get down the hill to sit at the red light at 5th ave.

I agree highway 16 north morning drivers are the worst. Not sure what makes them so crazy, but there are some really scary drivers. Must be all that clean air.

Interesting read on how universities operate in general

Never been on highway 16 north but on highway 97 north I think the speeders are doing so cuzz the Tim Horton’s lineup takes so long that they got to make up time. The excessive speeders spilled their hot coffee on their private parts and are rushing to the hospital. ☻

Slinky. I picked the first thing I found on the subject. If you want I can bury you in links on the subject of when it’s appropriate to keep right. I work in civil road engineering for a living. I was merely pointing out, yes in an excerpt which I edited out the superfluous language, that in urban areas four lane, roads are built for traffic management to handle volume.

All these 4 lane roads have feeder roads coming in from the right and left.

The left lane is not for speeding, and keep right except to pass is not enforced in urban roads like Domano, Ospika, any of the city avenues or streets.

Any vehicle may be travelling in the left lane could be there for an upcoming intersection they need to turn left into.

It’s not about “my driving style”, it’s about revisiting your drivers manual.

The speed limit is the speed limit on city roads. Just because some lunatic wants to travel 30 over the limit on Ospika, does not give him the right to do so nor are all the vehicles obligated to move over to accommodate his desires.

It only takes 10 minutes to get from one end of this city to the other.

Everyone needs to relax.

If you move over it just might prevent some impatient lunitic causing an accident trying to get around. That is the idea of moving over. Also it will reduce your stress level.
