Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Iceman competition is just over a month away, and today, the multi-discipline athletic event got a major boost.
The folks at Integris Credit Union have entered into a partnership with the P.G. Iceman event. “We will be providing some cash and volunteers” says Integris Manager of Partnerships Dan Wingham.
While not saying just how much cash will be provided, Wingham says it will be “what they need”. He says “ the amount will give the event financial certainty and sustainability so they can focus on the event.”.
The partnership is initially for three years, but Wingham envisions a partnership that will take the event into the next decade.
This will be the 28th year for the competition.
Dr. Karen Seland, the President of the PG Iceman Relay Society, says Integris brings a unique community profile to the event “While generously providing financial and volunteer resources that will ensure sustainability and enhancement of the Iceman now and in future years” .
It takes more than a 100 volunteers to make the Iceman a success. “It’s a great year for this kind of announcement” says Dr. Seland. “It’s the Year of Sport in Canada, it’s the 100th Anniversary , as we know, of this City, and the Canada Winter Games, so there’s sport all around us, and we think Prince George Iceman is also a great example of the promotion of health and fitness in our community.”
The event has been moved up to Sunday January 25th so it wouldn’t clash with the Canada Winter Games. Three of the Games venues (Otway, Aquatic Centre, and the ice oval) will be used in the competition which accepts individuals and teams skiing, running, skating and swimming their way to the finish line.

Did I really just read “BFF” in a news headline?
Lol
Congrats to the Iceman Society, good news for them.
I did a double take as well. Either journalistic standards are more relaxed these days or I’m getting old.
JB Your statement would be accurate if the ‘or’ was replaced with ‘and’. ;) This is an Internet-based media.
Good to see a local institution support a local tradition. Well done!
