First Nation Receives Support For NDIT Grant

Saturday, December 13, 2014 @ 12:58 AM

Prince George, B.C. – The Cariboo Regional District is throwing its support behind an application for a quarter of a million dollar grant from the Northern Development Initiative Trust to go toward a cultural centre and museum project in the south Cariboo.

The CRD board endorsed a resolution to support the Northern Secwepemc Cultural Society’s application in the amount of $250,000 under the NDIT’s Economic Diversification Infrastructure Program. The proposed cultural centre and museum in the 108 Mile Ranch area would preserve, record and exhibit records and objects of educational, historical and cultural value of the Canim Lake, Canoe Creek, Esketemc, Soda Creek and Williams Lake First Nations.

The Society expects the centre to be a source of education and enjoyment for the general public and a source of economic and general benefit for the members of the participating First Nations and the local area.

Good idea and long overdue. K’san Village has been very popular with tourists, so I think another similar Native historical museum along the route wouldn’t hurt. I’d also live to see a summer RV park down by Cottonwood Park and affordable riverboat day trips from there to Shelley or whatever too, and involve First Nations in this. We need more reasons for tourists to stop here other than to fill up with gas and buy supplies before heading on their way again.

Sorry, “like” to see.

Very good ideas mytwobits..
