Green Needs To Look Back Three Years For Some Answers
It was the final chapter in a less than stellar political career in this community . In spite of the efforts of the former Mayor and a group banded together in an attempt to get her the Conservative Nomination for the riding of Caribou- Prince George, Shari Green did not come out on top. The voters had the final say, and what they delivered was not pleasant.
Many of those who voted in the nomination had hoped to be able to get their final licks in if Green had tried to run for a second term as Mayor. Did she and her supporters see the hand writing on the wall? If they didn’t, they were wearing blinders.
From the taking over of the executive within the Riding Association, to the manner which the nomination process was handled, it became apparent that each turn in the road would become more difficult for Green to navigate.
Green left a high profile job as Mayor and member of the Regional District, Combined, the two postings paid her $9,418.20 a month. It was by all accounts, a good gig. To their credit many people, such as Dan McLaren had stood by her in her efforts to snag the nomination, but that group was small and shrinking. For all the effort that was put forward, 419 votes was not a major showing.
It is also important to note that whether it was the Brass of the Conservatives in Ottawa, or the local executive of the constituency , the call to freeze T.J. Grewal out of the process was a colossal mistake. The Indo Canadian community took it as slap in the face , and they made their thoughts known at the ballot box. That kind of conduct by a political party should never have happened.
As to the support of the Indo community in Prince George (who can take much comfort in the fact that they were very instrumental in getting Todd Doherty the nod) it is interesting to note that the Mayor of Richmond, Malcom Brodie is not Asian, yet he has been elected three times in a city which has a population of over 82 percent Asians, the right person makes all the difference.
What of Nick Fedorkiw? He had a very good showing by running second in the race , while not enjoying the name recognition that the other two candidates had, although Shari Green might wanted to have had a lot less of that name recognition.
Greens’ political career in this community is over. If she and her handlers are sitting back and wondering what went wrong, they might want to start at the Mayor’s desk some three years earlier for the answer.
I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.

oooohhhhhhhh SNAP!
I think “wearing blinders” is an understatement. I guess one has to be pretty narcissistic to not be able to gauge the support she had in this community and area.
This is like a group wanting to fire off a big rocket before they have developed a match to light it.
Ms Green – “as ye sow, so shall ye reap.”
failed as a mayor, failed at running her store and failed at higher politics. wonder what she will try next?
If I remember correctly, did not the same thing happen about 30 years ago to Elmer Mercer(sp?). He left the mayor’s chair to run for Federal Politics – I think it was federal. The election was over in the first round , and it was not Mercer who was elected. As a former GM of mine said at the time,” they hadn’t even finished brewing the coffee in the urn, and people were already heading out the door because it was over”.
Thanks Ben – a good re-cap of it all
Let it be clear that the indo Canadian vote was one factor working against green . But she didn’t have much support from any particular group. Even a vote from her husband who lives in a different riding did not help.
At almost $10,000 a month I think she didn’t care what the outcome was.now she can move on to so called greener pastures.
Her record spoke volumes. worst mayor we have had.. She would be wise to slip off to oblivion never to be heard of again.
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised to see this article considering Green’s relationship with this website. One more parting shot.
BEWARE… she might run for provincial politics yet!

——-
This is just one of many parting shots lately.
However, it should serve as a lesson. One of Green’s biggest mistakes was snubbing 250news. Regardless of how she felt about the organization, she should have swallowed some of her arrogance and played nice with Ben. That’s politics 101, never underestimate the value of a relationship with the media.
Um, bcracer- would she be that desperate??
axman: “That’s politics 101, never underestimate the value of a relationship with the media.”
Yup. And the media always gets the last word.
The irony in all of this is that Green would possibly have had a better chance of winning in a four person race (with some backroom horse-trading, of course) than what ended up being a three person race.
Statistical math would point in that direct, especially if you had a weak runner. An over estimation of strength started the downward spiral in this case.
The outcome of the vote was a reflection of the general public not just the dyed in the wool conservatives. I have never voted conservative and I was one of the people who took out a membership to have my say. The Green team taking over the EDA was a brilliant political move on her part. Not letting TJ run because of being one week short was a huge mistake and miscalculation on the part of the EDA. Having 4 people on the ballot might have worked out better for Green but they just couldn’t help themselves and in the end the dirty game they played didn’t work out for them.
Good news for all that Green is gone!!!! Congratulations to the Conservative Party for seeing the light!!!
JB I am sure Ben would love to interview Green so she can have her say, but she won’t because she knows she is not intelligent enough to be able to hold a conversation with him.
From those of us who grew up with Ms. Green in this fine community, it’s nice to see karma finally kicking in. So long Shari Green. Pity your family has to see your true colors.
Wow, I am not a green fan by no means, glad to see her lose. But if you were to substitute the words 250news in place of everywhere you see the word green, everyone of these posts would have been censored and pulled. Ben and 250news had very little influence on the vote, a bigger factor was she was cooked because of her record as a mayor and taking undue credit for things SHE saw as victories through her rose colored glasses.
ntkr14…desperate…possibly…. egotistical enough … YOU BET.
Sherri. Made some mistakes right from the get go. Not the least of which was the Haldi Road fiasco, and then the attempt to sell off Pine Valley Golf course. She would have been much better off if she had admitted to making some mistakes, and correcting them. She chose not to and as a result has now reaped what she sowed.
It was pretty obvious from the start that she was not about to listen to anyone other than those who supported her.
These days with electronic media, its much easier to keep issues in the news. People do have memories, and in this case they did not forget.
Hopefully we have an inclusive Mayor and Council this time around, who will ensure that the interests of all citizens of Prince George are looked after, and not just those of the vested interest groups.
The days of blindly accepting everything that a Council or Government want to do are fast coming to a close.
I am looking forward to a progressive Council, who will do the business of the City as openly and honestly as possible. We don’t need anymore back door politics and deals.
In fact I think that the Mayor and Council should invite the Provincial Government Municipal Auditor to Prince George to do an intensive audit of how we have been doing business in the past 10/15 years so that we can have a better understanding going forward.
Rather that trying to dodge an audit, we should greet it with open arms and get this City straightened out going forward.
I am not Conservative voter, and I likely won’t be in the next election either. I still purchased a membership so I could vote against Green. I know whichever Conservative won the nomination, is almost guaranteed the MP job. Prince George is too right-wing to consider another option. The thought of Green being sent to Ottawa to be the fact of our region had my stomach turning. I had to do my part in keeping her out.
If I had gone to the Curling Club to vote for Green, the two items she chose to highlight in her 5 minute speech would have changed my mind.
They were 1) what a tough deal she forced on the city union workers and 2)how she’s a supporter of the Enbridge pipeline. What a misread of the audience. Wouldn’t you first consider how many people favor decent wages for working families and how many are opposed to the pipeline project.
She didn’t have to go there.

” I actively support for the founding principles of the CPC ”
So you misrepresented the truth to get rid of Green?
axman,
How is this misrepresenting the truth? It’s called being proactive in the democratic process. I know this riding will elect a conservative, I think it is fair to have a voice in who that individual is, regardless of my political preference. It’s simply coming to terms with the reality of my riding, and having my say in who will be representing my city in Ottawa.
The CPC does not actively support the “founding principles” of the CPC. I would argue it is the PM and MPs who have misrepresented themselves.
“I still purchased a membership so I could vote against Green…”
Anyone who did this action also padded the financial accounts of the CPC, so the party is the big winner.
You may have had good intentions to ensure Mz Green did not get the spot, but you still contributed.
Let us all move on from the last four years. We got what we wanted because we voted, Sherri is gone. Let’s move on with out bashing her anymore, I am just tired of hearing it ….I think Ben said it best. Now, let’s put it to rest.
Remember the old saying careful what you wish for?? well in wishing for Shari Green’s political demise we (The Members of the CPC) selected Dick Harris 2.0 to represent us. Sure Todd is a nice guy and all that, but he doesn’t stand a snowballs chance in hell of making it to the cabinet table if elected. The CPC elects plenty of White, Anglo Saxon Males across the country and a lot of them come from ridings that are not guaranteed wins for the CPC. Todd will be a backbencher in a CPC minority government or in opposition. In either case his ability to represent our region and stand up for our needs is going to be severely limited by the one or two opportunities to speak in the house that the poobas in the PMO will grant him. Check Slick Dick’s record in Hansard…at most a handful of records of him actually speaking in the house!
So, if Todd = Dick, then Dick is what we will get from the feds going forward if the CPC is re-elected!
Funny thing is Sherri was the best person for the job , she is a attractive woman with a great smile with political aspirations, she could have helped this region more so than her predecessor, now we have basically a nobody who is now having to repay a huge favour to a special interest group.
Sherri’s career was a short one because she doesn’t know how to talk to people, she was arrogant and talks down to everybody and at the end of the day that’s why people voted her out, she always thought she was voted in as mayor and forgot that the people of Prince George essentially voted Dan Rogers out
@nighthawk……probably doesn’t know that Dick Harris was elected 7 times over a 22 year career……
Bottom line is….Dick Harris won and nighthawk and whatever political party he cheers for, lost..
So my advice to nighthawk is to get over it and admit that a majority of people in this Riding were right and he was wrong….
PS to nighthawk…seems to me that Harris won 5 elections with over 50% of the vote…..hmmmmm does that tell you something as well?
The Conservatives elected 166 members of Parliament. They have 39 Cabinet Ministers, so I guess that we can agree that 127 member of parliament will be back benchers.
I believe that with a few years experience, and his willingness to work Doherty could in fact get a Cabinet Post. Perhaps in Transportation. I think that he would be good in that field. He certainly has a lot of experience in a lot of areas.
I would put people in this area up against those in other areas anytime. However at the end of the day, it will come down to how well the member does his job, and how well connected he is.
The mantra for many years in Canada was **The West wants in**. We have now got to the point that we can say, that the Northwest wants in. We deserve a Cabinet Minister to represent North Central BC, whether its Doherty, or Zimmer. While we do not have a large population base, we do have a large land mass, huge resources, three sea ports, Kitimat, Prince Rupert, and Stewart BC.
Time for North Central BC to get on the National Map. We have earned it, we deserve it, and its now time to get it.
Dear Mr. Meisner,
Let’s see how long this comment of mine stays up, shall we? Over the past weeks I have posted nothing but facts and informed respectful opinions. Your actions in deleting certain posts is a dis-service to our community…..but here I go! Maybe I’ll get fifteen minutes of exposure.
I was never a Shari fan, but I wasn’t in the “anything but Shari” cohort. I want skill and integrity, and how I wish cameras had been inside those nomination rooms in Quesnel, Vanderhoof, Williams Lake, and Prince George. I think even the guys running the show were flabbergasted at what they saw. The fact is that TJ brought in Indo-Canadians by the bus load. Sure, they have a voice too, you might say. And some of them did. But that’s just it, many didn’t: They were handed “sample ballots” as they walked in the door and told to put a number one beside Todd’s name. I, and many others, witnessed this. Those of you reading who were there know that flyers, buttons, and any literature from candidates were not allowed inside the voting room. These sample ballots sometimes got in. But when the sample ballots were confiscated (power to the returning officer for keeping an eye something he was unprepared for!), some of these people were left utterly confused. One older Indo-Canadian woman asked me how she should fill in her ballot. Watching the circus, it took restraint to tell her to vote how she liked (although I rather would have said “Not Todd” at that point in time).
The sample ballots had a number one beside Todd’s name and his picture at the bottom. What a gross disrespect to our immigrant community. I felt sick, some of them were clearly being used. How are we supposed to have confidence in a Todd after this?
GG2492, the perpetual pro-Todder, and words to justify these actions?
^^cam Stolz is that you?
Game is over Shari lovers.
Cry somewhere else.
nope, not cam stolz and not a fan of Ms. Green. Just pointing out that Shari isn’t the only one lacking integrity. Time to demand better Cariboo-PG! Seriously, I’m sure some Todd supporters were irked by this when they showed up on election day. i just thought it needed to be said.
Agreed Ajiterator – Nick Fedorkiw is the true winner in this election. There were more Nick supporters than Todd supporters (though unfortunately less than Todd & TJ combined). You ran a clean campaign, and I’m sure that did not go unnoticed by leaders in our community. I’m looking forward to see what you do next.
Green gambled her political capital in PG despite her very negative numbers. She had a better chance in running in another town but it seems that that door is also closed with her low support in PG. She is now packing for south for a Liberal position in Victoria.
I don’t think it will be a cake walk to Ottawa for Todd Doherty in the upcoming elections, looking at the Bobby Deepak numbers in the provincial election.
Gimmieabreak…..for the record I am a card carrying member of the CPC, have been since before the party was hijacked by the reformers and have spoiled my ballot in every election that slick Dick has been a candidate for the CPC.
So I really have nothing to get over.
As for Dick getting elected so many times that tells me 2 things….1) a brick could run in this riding for the CPC and get elected, and 2) we set the bar pretty low as far as our expectations for an MP. Perhaps living in the riding would have been a good place to start.
