Christmas Turkey’s Safe Assures Northern Health

Saturday, December 20, 2014 @ 3:40 AM

Prince George, B.C. – No need to worry about the avian flu when picking up your Christmas turkey this holiday season.

That from Northern Health’s Environmental Health Officer Neelam Hayer.

“Cooking it safely, thawing the turkey safely, making sure you cook it to the right temperature should eliminate that issue.”

She adds that generally speaking, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is dealing with that file.

“If we had concerns with that locally we would definitely alert the media and public. They should be rest assured that what they’re picking up in the stores should be safe.”

Her comments come just days after the CFIA confirmed the avian flu has spread to 10 farms in the Fraser Valley.

The outbreak has also prompted several countries to place bans on BC poultry.

She uses the word “should” way to often to convince me it is ok. Ham for me this year.

This from an outfit that says there’s never been any patients kept in hall ways of the hospital. Still waiting for the other fool to apologize.

How about rabbit. It’s 24.60 or so at Save on, but all it cost me was a .22 cartridge and bout $8 in gas. Damn it’s good.
