Environment Canada Issues Winter Storm Warning
Tuesday, January 6, 2015 @ 8:13 AM
Prince George, B.C. – There will be no early reprieve from the sudden burst of winter Prince George is experiencing.
This as Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for Prince George and Quesnel.
It’s expected to bring 10 more centimetres of snow before finally tapering off this evening.
In addition to the snow, freezing rain and ice pellets are possible in the North Cariboo region.
In light of the icy and slippery conditions motorists are advised to avoid driving if possible.

Looks like the snow removal honeymoon is over! No sign of any snow removal into downtown or downtown itself. I did see 3 loaders driving down 5th this morning. I guess they need to make as many compact ruts as possible.
Of course the city hall parking lot is done! Awesome allocation of taxpayer resources.
Oh my waaaa. Lol. ^^^^^ What’s wrong with you? Clearly you’re head has snow in it.

The correct word is “your”. “You’re” is a contraction for “you are”.
We pay 50 million dollars a year for salaries in Prince George. Our streets should be immaculate. If you’re fine with spending that kind of money for minimal return then I suggest you’re the one with the snow in the head issue.
Westgate area done this morning. It has been great service this year.
A penny says by the games it’s 10 degrees Celsius.
Seriously, I drive a little car, low to the ground, decent studded tires, and I made it all around town this morning. No issues. Side streets a bit challenging, but still managed to make it. Most main roads have been cleared. Give them a chance. Good grief.
my road was done before I left for work. Good job PG City.
I left a bit of Cheese out for you axman
Axman, what part of downtown are you talking about? It was clear for me at 8.
I am starting to think you see what you wanna see.
Went down 15th this morning into town and I can tell you, for a major street, it was no where near done. No sign of ANY city crews anywhere on the Hart, so maybe the new mayor lives in Westgate.
make it +20C changeit and there will be some happy people, a
nd some not so much….

I turned onto 5th from the highway at 7:30 and 5th was not plowed. I then turned right on to Winnipeg -there was a police incident further up 4th otherwise I would have turned right on to Vancouver. Winnipeg was compact from the traffic but was not plowed. I then turned onto 7th and headed to Victoria. I didn’t expect to see 7th plowed and it wasn’t. I then turned onto Victoria and headed towards 15th. Victoria was not plowed. I turned off Victoria onto Patrica and it too was not plowed. I made a right at the Civic center and -lo and behold!- that section of Patricia to Queensway was plowed, as was the City Hall parking lot. I ran my errand then took Queensway to 2nd (Queensway was plowed / compacted) then turned on to 2nd and headed to Victoria. 2nd was not plowed either. It was probably 8:00 by this point.
And, like I said, the only snow removal equipment I saw were the 3 loaders packing the snow down on 5th.
If PG wants to pretend they’re a big city, they need to act like one. There is no reason for the main roads (like 5th!) to be in the state they were at 7:30 this morning.
There were two plows working on Domano Blvd at 5 am this morning and it’s looking pretty good right now.

That’s the way it should be. The major feeder roads should all be ready before 6:00 am. Domano, Ospika, 15th, 5th, Queensway and 1st for starters. None of this Brunswick, 2nd and Patricia nonsense.
Cheese and whine, anyone?
At 0500 from Lyons to Foothills, 5th Ave. was done. Had no problems getting around, even out to the airport.
Hey there, Bill GAAL, people now expect everything to be done by the time they go to work, gives you about 8 hours to do the whole city, guess we gotta hire 20 more graders and front end loaders, would hate to have people buying out Walmart for cheese and the Liquor store for whine….LMAO
Household broom $8
Snowbrush $6
Cleaning your vehicle off completely so you are not driving with a “snow vapour trail” blowing behind you, we can actually see your brake/signal lights and don’t have to “guess” what you are doing- PRICELESS!!
The main roads up here in College Heights are good, but not the side streets.
University Way is nicely done, but very slick. A city bus plopped over on its’ side in the ditch just past University Heights. I don’t know if there were any people on it, but the bus driver had to climb out of his window as the door was blocked.
If you don’t have to drive today, don’t – it’s not worth it!
We have become a City of wimps and whiners when it comes to snow on the roads.
Newsflash: It’s Prince George. You will have to drive in less than ideal conditions in the winter.
Left for work at 8:30 and both 15th and Ospika were just fine. Staffer at the office said the downtown was plowed, but I didn’t ask for specific streets. So far, so good.
Wish people would learn to drive according to the conditions. Common sense isn’t that common.
Someone told me that we have in excess of 800 KM of roadways that are maintained by the City of PG. Unless we went out and purchased / hired a fleet that is at least 10 times what we have now, it would be almost IMPOSSIBLE to meet Axman’s expectations for getting our roads plowed. If the equipment is not in the yard, or parked by the side of the road,I would suspect that it’s out there moving snow.
Also, 5th and 15th Avenue almost never get plowed during the day because it would be to disruptive for traffic, and the ongoing traffic would not allow them to do the job properly
Perhaps you need to call into city works prior to running your errands, and ask them to prioritize your particular route for immediate plowing!

Proper planning and common sense. City should know by now what arteries are the heaviest traveled and at what hours. If they don’t than someone really needs to be fired. Haven’t been impressed this year so far. Yes it is definitely better than last year, but than again last year it was pathetic.
The man in charge should go take a course on, adequate times to apply salt!!
Of course he should have wrote these question down before hiring the consultant last year. Maybe after we paid the consultant so well he would be kind enough to answer the question “without charge” over the phone.
“, it would be almost IMPOSSIBLE to meet Axman’s expectations for getting our roads plowed.”
I have no expectation that all our roads be plowed quickly. I expect the city to plow the major feeder routes before the morning rush. Domano, Ospika, University, 15th, 5th, Queensway and 1st Avenue should all be plowed before 7:00am and there’s absolutely no reason that they aren’t.
Westgate was plowed before 5th this morning? That’s absolutely ridiculous.
Our neighbourhood in Hart Highlands has been plowed so we are happy campers.
I for one am very happy with the City’s response to snow clearing in December and now. I can’t recall in the past four years getting snow removal done this quick.
PG Airport reportedly had 5 to 8 cm, this morning I measured 15 cm where I live in the bowl.
I suggest for those that are concerned, go down to the 18th Ave. yard and talk to someone about those concerns before spouting off on here.
