Dralion a “Phenomenal” Success

Prince George, B.C. – “A phenomenal success”.

That’s how Glen Mikkelsen, manager of the CN Centre, describes last week’s Cirque du Soleil production Dralion.

“They surpassed where we all hoped they’d be. We sold almost 24,000 tickets. Essentially sell-outs for each show.”

He adds Cirque du Soleil was very impressed with all the feedback they received.

“To sell out a week of shows, that hasn’t happened for several months since they were in Russia. And to be given standing ovations after the shows here, they were really pleased.”

Mikkelson says it remains to be seen however whether they come back.

“I hope so. There’s no guarantees of course in our business but based on how well that week did I think we really demonstrated that we can support those type of acts.”

And he says it wasn’t just Prince George residents who embraced the production, but people from throughout the region.

“We had people coming from all over the north to visit Prince George on holidays and check out this internationally acclaimed show.”

And all that without a performing arts centre. Someone again, explain to me why we need one with all the facilities we do have?

It was a fantastic show, and I do hope they come back. Soon. Thank you to whom ever got them booked here, nice job. :)

I went to one of the performances, and although entertaining, I don’t think I would drop a couple hundred bucks again to see it. To me one of the most entertaining parts was the music and singing was live, which surprised me. The show may have seemed less technical had our view been from the front rather than the side. We saw all the subtle actions like clipping up safety harnesses on the performers, which took away from the effect of peril, etc. The performers no doubt are skilled acrobats and performers, but IF I were to see a performance of cirque again it would have to be a view from the front to get the full effect.

Spelling? Dralion not Drailion! Please, publications have a duty to use proper spelling and grammar.

Thanks,

And yes, we thoroughly enjoyed the show!

Excellent show, and congrats to CN Centre for bringing it in.

“High Profile” shows like this highlight that Prince George does have a premium market and that PG must continue to strive to drop it’s backwoods/redneck image by bringing in more big, premium shows in the future.

Spend spend spend, build build build (hotels, PAC, anything). We need to to everything we can to modernize this City, and hopefully in time, the residents within it.

Awesome, positive outlook Summit. Just think that was all accomplished without building a PAC yea! Lets utilize the facilities we already have.

It was a great time. I would really like to see PG get more shows like this in the future. It’s nice to have options for entertainment beyond the outdoors sometimes.

Cirque is performing in PAC’s now? Different act, different needs. Not all arts use the same buildings, much like not all sports use the same buildings.

Other than that fact, good to see the support!

PAC would not come anywhere near to handling shows like this.

It was probably a different show looking head on Huh. That’s where our seats were and we noticed little of what you saw. Me, I’d drop the cash again in a heart beat if it came back. I’m not good a sitting still, and when the end came, I went “huh” it’s over already. I couldn’t believe how fast the time went.

GOOD- 2 more seats for someone else

Well done Glenn and crew. Having worked with and around the CN Centre for years I have nothing but admiration for all the staff there…

Dralion… The show was amazing. It also took me awhile to note the music was live. Most certainly that show would not fit into a PAC. Does not mean that one shouldn’t be contemplated. Having said that it is too much of a commitment for the current economy.

Some work needs to be done getting cars out of the parking lot. That seemed to take longer than the show. A minor 1st world problem though.
Great catch CN Centre!

Thought it was great but am also not sure I would go again any time soon. In a couple years probably but not right away.

Cuzz as a construction worker I would probably get about a years worth of work building it. (in town work!) For me this would be a good return on my portion of the taxes required to build it. No other reason.

Ha ha me too Hartly2. The cop shop was a good gig for a year! Other than that we absolutely can not afford one.

good job Glenn. the show was great, the fans loved it. hope it was profitable for all parties concerned.

Enjoy all those tax free dollars you sucked in from BC Cirque du Soleil!
