Half way through January already!
Time to speak up on the issues that got under your skin this past week.
It’s time for the FRIDAY FREE FOR ALL.
You pick the topic, but obey the three simple rules:

Nice to be first. NEW NAME AND NEW IDEA. I only wish I could put on a bull*** filter for some of you guys.Snow clearing is great and I support the RCMP.. They do a great job. THEY ARE LIKE ANY OTHER PROFESSION. A FEW BADS ONES BUT 97% ARE GREAT. They risk their lives so we have the freedom to be idots.
Editor’s note: edited due to language
Good Morning… LUV that rain eh..
Treasure Cove slot machine overpaid thousands. You have to love that headline, that Casino has ruined lives with the addiction it creates.
Every casino does that.
If you think our gas is cheap, Sam;s Club down in Auburn is at $1.99 gallon
In metro phoenix it is $1.79 a us gal. 3.78 lts and our dollar is .83 cents plus 2 cents exchange diesel $2.79 a us gal. that is at fry’s grocery in Peoria az
Yeah but the water tastes like crap in Phoenix.
DO NOT STOP in the roundabout! It is unreal how many people do not know how to use the roundabout and stop in the middle of it to let people in disrupting the whole flow of traffic and the purpose!
No kidding threejsmom, although some people are forced to stop during shift change because many of the mill workers can’t quite grasp the concept either and just force their way in. Maybe a person should just drive into their door and let the police tell them who actually had the right of way.
Happy friday all!
Speaking of driving lessons, there was a car rear-ended in the yield lane exiting pine centre to head south on 97 the other day. I would love to hear how that conversation went with the nice officer attending! “But he stopped right in front of me!!!”. And your point is…?
They stop in the middle of the roundabout? Wow! Must be the same ones who roll through every stop sign, don’t know how to merge and don’t know how to handle a 4 way stop intersection!
Noooooo! Can there never be a Friday Free For All without complaining about PG drivers? We get it… only those who post on News250 know how to operate a vehicle and understand the rules of the road. You are not educating anybody that doesn’t already know.

I will start; I took the family to Earls for wings Wednesday. We were seated quickly, however it was a bit close to a group of fella’s celebrating a birthday. They were a tad loud after feeling the glow of the multiple shots they were drinking, but was easily ignored because it was good to see a group of people having a good time! Food and service was good as usual. As a father it was a constant battle to keep the family away from the cell phones, so I instituted the center cell phone challenge. All phones in the middle of the table on silent (not vibrate) and the first to pick up the phone pays the bill. I am happy that we had a good consistent restaurant in town that is well established and I hope the addition is going well.
Enjoy the weekend and the warmer than usual weather.
never mind bringing harper, bring the Pope… that’ll boost our economy
welll Lets talk bout Scotty McWalter.. Certainly climbing up the ladder and making quite the impression along the way.. But that does not make me an Uncle as yet.. Maybe gotta get him home more often..:)

Fiance
———–
You want us to talk about your fiance? Why? Can she not drive? :)
Nice one axman.. surely you can find more.
“Nice one axman.. surely you can find more.”
I thought it was funny. Oh well, guess we must all remain serious here.
Keep Right Except To Pass.
Better?
It was funny. I picked it up right away, and my grammar error using the word there instead of their.
Speaking of funny. I made it to the the comedy show at the Playhouse as part of the Snowed In tour. What a laugh, I had stomach pains. It was great! Pretty raunchy humor, but its for adult audiences. Trying to stay awake for the late show exposed my age, but I am sure glad I didn’t miss out!
Left hand turns. All you people that make a left hand turn behind a person doing a opposing left hand turn YOUR DOING IT WRONG. I know some of you are going to say noway that how you are supposed to do it,No try it in any major city where more than one opposing person is making left turns you will crash and it will be your fault. Traffic can’t keep moving if you are making opposing left hand between people. Before the people that do the opposing left hand turns wrong flame maybe they can tell in their words what are the rules on making 2 different types of opposing left turns. They make a left off the by pass onto 5th correct but then going down Ospika they do left turns behind a person doing a opposing left.
Just wondering, does anyone around here tap birch trees for syrup around here?

welll Lets talk bout Scotty McWalter.
———
Why? Don’t they fawn all over him enough on the Hell Yeah page?
Putin ordered all gas to Europe via Ukraine shut off today. Says Russian gas will now only go through Turkey, and that Europe will be responsible for building its own infrastructure to the Greek Turkey boarder (not likely to happen this winter or next). Also says Russian gas will only trade in Ruble now and they have officially dropped the American dollar as a form of trade currency.
This is going to cause huge disruptions to European markets. Could trigger the end of the EU. Should be alarming for NATO that Turkey is Russia’s new best friend. Might be good for LNG exports though for Europeans looking for a more stable supply of natural gas. Probably all European sanctions on Russia will be dropped within weeks and then it will be interesting to see how Obama and Harper handle the Ukrainian situation if they no longer have Europe on side.
Hey Grizzly2 – I tapped some birch trees on my place 3 years back. With maple syrup it takes 40 gallons of sap to make a gallon of syrup. That ratio with birch is 100 to 1.
It doesn’t taste anything like maple, still sweet, but quite different.
Northern had the spigots to put into the trees.
Another common and rarely discussed annoying PG Driver habit: Yielding in the merge lane.
Isn’t the HYPG site more of a ‘happy, happy, joy, joy’ site. Just drink the Koolaid!! One sorta (observant) comment; not even rude….and your GONE!!!
Happens to a lot of us! That’s life.
Until the drivers improve, there will be comments.
So, who really cares if Harper comes to check out the games…hope he spends his own money. Yah, right!
“Yeah but the water tastes like crap in Phoenix.”
That’s not the worst of it. It’s too hot in January, unbearable in the summer. It’s not for nothing that the Navajo name for Phoenix means “Hell”.
Sure hope they find the missing snowmobilers!!!! Know one of them.
City Transit Users:
Please have your Money or Bus Pass ready to go when hopping on the Bus.
I don’t understand why after you get on the Bus and the Bus stays Stopped that you think it is time to look in your pockets or go through your Purse for your Cash or your Bus Pass.
Lets keep it going and flowing.
Harper is on top. That gets the Harper haters frothing. The anti-conservative, whip it out boy supporter media like Global, CTV and especially the tax payer funded CBC will have to step up their anti-conservative rants.
Now with all the militant Islamic news lately haven’t heard a peep out of whip it out boy, unless I missed it. I guess the liberal party are keeping him quiet considering his support of some questionable Muslim clerics, or maybe he’s hiding under a bed somewhere?
The treasure cove casino should fire the miserable looking security guys at the front door..If you hate your job , than go find another one. A person says hi to them and you may get a nod , but most of the time they just look stupid at ya.
Hey Nav, maybe they’re trying to be “All they can be” LOL
So true navigator11. I’ve gone a few times over the years and they seem really cranky. I think there was one time we were greeted pleasantly, but not usually a welcoming greeting at all. I’m not sure what the purpose is, if they are supposed to come across as scary and intimidating, or whatever, but for people going in there looking to have some fun or maybe throw away money they can’t afford, there should at least be a welcoming smile!
Have walked through the casino doors twice since it opened, once to check it out, second to bring relatives visiting from out of town. Not a fan so don’t go.
One thing I have come to realize about pg drivers is, I am the only good one, the rest of you are horrible..LOL
Have a great weekend everyone.. Be safe out there

I was wondering who that one guy was who knew how to signal. Me? I just straddle the white line in my lifted Dodge Ram and go as fast as I damn well please.
aren’t all dodge trucks jacked up? They all look the same so hard to tell ;-)
P Val: “Have walked through the casino doors twice since it opened, once to check it out, second to bring relatives visiting from out of town. Not a fan so don’t go.”
I have to agree with you. I have been there maybe a handful of times, but I don’t find slot machines or the table games stacked heavily in favour of the house all that entertaining.
That being said, there are people who like to go on occasion and the vast majority can handle it without issue, so who am I to judge if they like to go?
Good morning to all my friends in George and others. It’s a balmy 7c some showers last night but I see some blue sky so it’ looks like as promising day.
I have an axe to grind this am about the negative comments about Abbotsford and some that are personal. We moved from Abbotsford to Prince George in 1970 and I went to work at Intercon. We had lived in other places like the Kootnies, Vancouver Island and others. Our kids were approaching high school age so PG was the place to be and we stayed there for almost 30 years.
The people of Prince George were warm and friendly but the City was a pease of s**t. There is no comparison as a place to live between Abbotsford and Prince George. And pride of place is a big problem.
We lived in Pine Cone Sub. There was a neighbour that never cut his lawn from one year to the next. Up the street there were a number of duplexes Where the renters parked their trucks on the front lawn. We had a rental property next door that I blew the winters gavel off each spring with me power washer and cut the lawn all summer.
And of course there is Pot Hole City. There are many public areas in the city that are wild where weeds and willows grow and not maintained at all. There is the poor air quality , the Hood and the City is no one for National crime. So stop pointing your finger at me where I have my home and chosen to live.
Cheers
How long until Ryan Moore is given dangerous offender status?
“I have an axe to grind this am about the negative comments about Abbotsford and some that are personal.”
I have an axe to grind about a certain poster coming on this site daily and littering every thread with weather report posts from “Abby” and how great everything is there.
Retired 02: “The people of Prince George were warm and friendly but the City was a pease of s**t. ”
So you come on this site complaining that people are negative towards Abby then you post this? Hypocrite.

So it’s OK for all the inconsiderate ones coming off the bridge to file into the circle 20 at a time without giving anyone coming home from work from their mill jobs, a chance to continue on? I’ll force my way into the circle anytime the inconsiderate ones can’t quite grasp the concept of common courtesy.
I wonder why anybody actually bothers to feed that TROLL…I mean if his post is not the height of hypocrisy I don’t know what is.
Prince George was good enough to give him and his family a good living, and obviously good enough to raise his kids here…and then he has the audacity to call this place a piece of S**T.! I’ve spent lots of time in the Abbotsford, Mission and Chilliwack areas, and other than the lack of snow most winters there are not enough redeeming features about the area to overcome the constant assault on my olfactory senses from the CRAP they spread on the fields there. Every time you open the door you are wondering who crapped on your front porch!
Perhaps the TROLL should find a more local forum or blog to visit because those of us that live here in Prince George don’t give a flying you know what for his opinions about our fair city!
Retired 02, a few days ago I asked you a couple of questions, but you always seem to fade off into the distance for a few days, without answering them!
You’ve done that on more than one occasion!
What’s up with that??
Retired gave a good description of parts of Abby but left out the nauseating stink, WTF.
“I have an axe to grind this am”
Leave me out of this… :)

Who has the right of way? The person already in the circle. And if they happen to be from the Bridge entrance so be it. Personally -as a common courtesy- I like to let 8one* vehicle in even if I have the right of way and I hope the person behind me does the same but, it always seems that as soon as I do that, some jack from the mill side decides he’s going in too. You just can’t win.
Traffic would flow so much nicer if it wasn’t always “me! me! me!”.
PS. Chances are, the people on the Bridge are coming home from work as well. Mill workers aren’t special.
Giving away your right of way to one vehicle (when you shoudn’t), then taking it back is probably part of what causes a lot of confusion in the traffic circle.
Just like the people who get to a four way stop clearly before you then look at you as if to say, “No, please go ahead.” That kind of thing messes up traffic flow as well.
I prefer to think of it as diffusing a potentially dangerous situation. Based on the aggressive driving habits of some of the people coming from the mill, I get the distinct impression that one or two of them are ready to snap and “go postal” at the slightest provocation.
Retired 02
Comments like “the City was a pease of s**t. “(sic) is sure to get people on your side. Might just be time for you to look for a news604 down in Abby and impress them with your grade school grammer and spelling.
Most residents of Prince George have things called smart phones and if they are interested in Abby’s current weather conditions can find it faster than you can find where the number 7 is hidden on your keyboard.
I can think of dozens of places in this province far better than Abbotsford to while away the days waiting to feed the worms. Sucking up Vancouver’s exhaust fumes or that from Sumas Power, NO THANKS! Gangs on one side and religious nutcases who do not believe in immunization on the other, keep it!
Trade a nice house on just under an acre minutes from city center for some thin walled condo where you can hear if your neighbour had chili for supper, not for me!
PG roads are in far better shape now that the gas tax is being used to repair and repave. Kelowna took the boobie prize for the worst road in the province this year.
Much has been said over the past many months about the wages and benefits paid to City Workers. I think that the problem goes far beyond City workers and permeates throughout our Public Sector.
Here’s one more example!
Today’s Free Press has a classified ad for a Service Centre Representative with the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George.
The job description states “provides assistance to the public as well as a wide variety of clerical support for various departments”.
It also lists qualifications including “demonstrated training and experience in customer relations and oral communications skills; minimum Grade 12 or equivalent; successful completion of a post-secondary program (minimum one year) in secretarial or office administration program plus three years related general office experience or five years general office experience”.
So, basically we are talking about slightly more than entry level office/secretarial skill sets!
Starting salary for this position??
$48,0176.06 to $53,354.86 per year, plus benefits!!
In case you haven’t got a calculator, that’s slightly more than $4,000.00 per month to start! Based on a 7.5 hour work day, that works out to in excess of $26.50 to almost $32.00 per hour, plus benefits!! For a lower level support staff position??? Ouch!!
The next time that the City raises our garbage rates, remember that not only are we supporting excessive wages at the City, we are also supporting excessive wages at the Regional District!
Just read a story on CBC, flu shots don’t work.
Dragon, I think he won’t need DO status, doubt he’ll be with us.
Grizzly: “Just read a story on CBC, flu shots don’t work.”
That’s what you got out of that story? You better read it again.
Retires 02, not here to raz you….just curious. Where are the Kootnies ?
Hey, how about making all those caught texting or talking on a cell phone while driving take this texting and driving course these NVSS students were doing. No pass and you give up your license for a month or two.
Might make some of them think about it.
Retired 02,
We moved here from North Vancouver in 1999. Let me rephrase that. We FLED from the lower mainland.
We’d had enough of the density, the angry people, and the traffic.
Out best friends have lived in Abbotsford all their lives. They call it “The Dead Zone” populated either by religious nut jobs, immigrants picking blueberries, or old retired people. They hate it there now. They love coming to visit Prince George and staying with my mother on Trent Drive and sitting out on the deck under pine trees.
You lived in PG all those years yet didn’t take advantage of the 1000 lakes within a 2 hour drive? Where you can find serenity – REAL serenity – ie: no one else around within ten minutes of driving in any direction from the city.
Sounds also like you picked crappy parts of PG to live. I can point out crappy parts of the lower mainland just as bad or worse than what you described about PG. They are all not all nice and shiny.
And the air quality? I call you on that one. I’m asthmatic. Severely brought on by particulate. I got it living down there. We decided to move in July 1999 after I was on the phone with my wife while I was sitting in my car in Richmond and I could not see the north shore mountains because of the smog. And I was sucking on inhalers like crazy. Enough was enough.
We moved here and other than the occasional inversion in early September, I don’t need an inhaler.
In the lower mainland no one came to visit because everyone was too tired to battle traffic.
Since we’ve moved here, we usually have options for dinner parties, kitchen parties, get togethers every Friday and Saturday night.
People here are friendly and real. They come to see you because they want to be with you, not because they want something from you.
My company tried to promote me and move me back to the lower mainland. I told them they couldn’t pay me enough. Ever. Thanks for the offer. They asked “How much would it take?”. I said to have the same lifestyle I have here, with a six foot teenage with size 11 feet stomping on the floor, a golden retriever, and my Cerwin Vega’s with 15 inch woofers pounding classic rock, i’d need a big house and property that matches mine so I’d want at least $ 500,000.00 per year to start, plus another $ 100,000.00 in quarterly bonuses, plus 6 weeks vacation to get the hell out of that place enough to keep my sanity. They asked if I was for real. I said yup. They hired some other guy.
Come to think of it, maybe you post here all the time because you miss it here so much and you are lonely and truly want to move back.
So here’s an invitation. Move back, preferably to the south and west side of town because you seem to need the shiny happy part of the city instead of the older grittier part. When you get here, start to enjoy all the wonderful things PG has to offer.
Or, stay there, feel free to drop by but quit beating down on our town. And stop “rubbing it in our face” that you moved to Abbotsford because, well, no one cares. Me, I pity your choice.
Johnny
CBC’s just the periphery on flu shots there’s more.
You guys are pretty tough on Retired 02. Thought for the longest time he was in the inner circle of the 250 bloggers. If 250 charged a few cents for each posting…advertising team wouldn’t have to work so hard.
Another day driving down 4th Avenue and almost hitting a person jay walking from their parking lot across to RCMP building. Happens almost daily and always the person is in dark colored uniform or coat. I guess until one gets hit, they will not understand the exercise to walk 10 steps to the cross walk will hurt less than a car hitting them.
Here is an interesting listen, 25 year depression.

ntkr 14….yes hypg… is all bubble wrapped and proper….see who is monitering it tho….You just say hell, and you are booted….If you bring roses and photos of bridges and random snow shots,,,you are in,,,,but they cannot be better than the monitor’s, or they will get axed.
navigator 11….that is why I dont give a dime to Major….I go to vegas where I am welcomed and thanked.
stillsmokin….dont bring the pope and dont get me going….lol
When do we get a new list of pedophiles living in the city…Is there such list, where does it exist,,or do we have to go looking for it?
