P.G. Unemployment Rate Holds Steady at 4.2%
Prince George, B.C. – Some stability to report when it comes to the unemployment rate in Prince George.
“In Prince George we have an unemployment rate of 4.2% for December which is unchanged from this time last year,” says Vincent Ferrao, labour analyst with Statistics Canada.
“In terms of employment very little change also. We had 50,000 people working this December compared to the same number a year ago.”
He says the unemployment rate in the Cariboo region was 4.6%, a slight increase from 4.5% last December.
Ferrao says the retail, wholesale trade and sales sector was the largest employer in the region (11,000).
Provincially the unemployment rate fell to 5.4%, an improvement from 6.6% last year.
And nationally the unemployment rate in December was unchanged from a month ago at 6.6%.
Year over year it was .6% lower than the 7.2% reported in December, 2013.
