Boxing Legend Chuvalo to Speak at Native Friendship Centre

Tuesday, January 27, 2015 @ 3:50 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Former Canadian Heavyweight boxing champion George Chuvalo will be in Prince George this week for a return engagement.

He’ll be here to share his personal story at the Prince George Native Friendship Centre Thursday night.

“He actually visited 15-20 years ago and spoke at our Friendship Centre and we’re so excited to have him back,” says director of health Erin Anderlini.

“I think people remember him fondly and he has a great story to tell about his journey through wellness. He’s planning to speak about his family and the struggles they’ve gone through.”

She adds he’s well aware of the centre’s focus on health and wellness and the issues “our community is facing with addictions and mental health.”

Anderlini says the ultimate goal of the evening is “for George’s message to be shared” and to spread awareness regarding Friendship Centre programs.

She says tickets are still available and can be picked up by contacting the Friendship Centre.

Anderlini says Chuvalo will speak from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and notes a silent auction is also planned with all proceeds going to the Friendship Centre Food Bank.
