Two Mill Blast Inquests to Be Held

Tuesday, January 27, 2015 @ 2:13 PM

Prince George, B.C.- The Chief Coroner for B.C. Lisa Lapointe, has decided to split the inquests into the fatal mill explosions in Prince George and Burns Lake.

The inquest into the Lakeland explosion will go ahead as planned on March 2nd in Prince George, but the Babine Forest Products blast inquest will be delayed until July 13th and will be held
at the Island Gospel Fellowship Hall in Burns Lake. Presiding over that inquest will be Chico Newell, resource industry coroner for the BC Coroners Service.

The Chief Coroner was in Burns Lake a week ago meeting with families, survivors, communities and inquest participants. Lisa Lapointe has now decided those community needs outweigh what advantages there might be in combining the two inquests.

Thankyou Madam Coroner, well done!

Yes, well done. It makes no sense to hold a joint inquest – the reasons for the explosions could be quite different, they were both wood dust explosions but the causes could be different.
