Special Olympians and Timberwolves …A Slam Dunk Combo
Prince George, B.C. – There will be some special fans in the stands at tonight’s UNBC Timberwolves basketball game at the Northern Sports Centre.
Special Olympics athletes will be cheering on the UNBC teams, and the Special Olympics basketball team will play during half time of the men’s game.
The Timberwolves will be wearing Special Olympic red laces in their court shoes to show they are fans of the Special Olympics and support the Special Olympic Athletes. The laces are symbolic of people walking side by side, tied by a common thread of respect and inclusion.
Fans attending the games can get more information on the Special Olympics by visiting a special information booth in the foyer of the Northern Sports Centre.
Special Olympics is a world wide organization that provides opportunity for those with intellectual challenges to enrich their lives through positive sport experiences. In Prince George there are 120 Special Olympic athletes who take part in 13 different sports. Worldwide, there are more than 4.4 million Special Olympians in 170 countries.
