January 2015 – 5th Mildest on Record
Prince George, B.C. – January 2015 was a mild one in Prince George, the 5th mildest on record since 1943Environment Canada meteorologist Matt MacDonald says the temperature throughout the month averaged 3 degrees warmer than the norm “The average temperature in January was minus 4.6, when the normal average for January is minus 7.9.”
MacDonald says the month produced the normal amount of precipitation, even though three quarters of it came in the form of rain.
The snowstorm that hit the City on Friday dumped 20 centimetres of the white stuff on the City, and that was enough for a new record snowfall for a January 30th, beating the old record of 19cm set in 1957.
February is off to a snowy start with 5 centimeters expected today, another 10 centimeters expected Thursday, and a further 5 on Friday. MacDonald says after this week, we should be heading into another mild spell, but not mild enough to melt what’s already on the ground so there will be snow for the Winter Games.
