Prince George, B.C.- The stars of the Timber Kings are in town, and they are working to make the Northern BC Tourism Plaza a reality.
“It has been our mandate to represent all of northern British Columbia – and even the Province – in our games activities”, said CEO, Clint Fraser. “Bringing in some of BC’s high profile artists and craftsmen will be an unforgettable way to give the visitors from rest of Canada a taste of our region.”
In addition to those guests, the Northern BC Tourism and Tourism Prince George partnership will provide opportunity for 18 communities and two regional districts to be represented in the Northern BC Tourism Plaza – an installation currently taking shape in the Four Seasons Leisure Pool parking area.
“The Northern BC Tourism Plaza will showcase the region and give visitors the chance to experience some of what our area is known for – outdoor fun, exploration, arts and culture. Also, Tourism Prince George will be on site offering expert recommendations and information about Prince George,” said Blaine Estby, Program Coordinator for Northern BC Tourism.
The Tourism Plaza will be complete with cedar-facade portables, a log entranceway, custom-built benches and fire pit area for storytelling and outdoor demonstrations.
During the games, chainsaw carvers from Chetwynd – home of Chetwynd International Chainsaw Carving Championship – will make appearances, as well as performers from Barkerville and Wells. Indoors house Visitor Services, information on Northern BC communities and activities, and the “Great Northern BC Roadtrip” photobooth sets featuring fishing, hiking, Kermode bear and trapper’s cabin. Visitors are encouraged to share their photos through a unique social media campaign, which allows them to enter to win daily prizes from the visiting communities. Visitors can also win one of 7 grand prize trips throughout Northern and Central BC including: a week in Haida Gwaii; a VIA Rail round-trip from Prince George to Prince Rupert; and a week long RV rental package in the Cariboo Chilcotin.
The Tourism Plaza will be open from noon to 9:30pm daily during the 2015 Canada Winter Games, and everyone is welcome to visit the attraction. As multiple communities will be on site at different times throughout the Games, visitors are encouraged to check in often. A schedule of events can be found at www.facebook.com/NorthernBC

Satirical Twist: The Northern BC Tourism Plaza will showcase the region and give visitors the chance to experience some of what our area is known for – junkies, hookers, pan handlers*(*aggressive and non-aggressive), mobile drug dealers* (* mobile recreational pharmaceutical dispensers), used and discarded drug paraphernalia, outdoor fun, exploration, arts and culture. Also, Tourism Prince George will be on site offering expert recommendations and information about Prince George. End of Satirical Twist.
I really hope the games go off without a hitch, I just wish more was done downtown to clean things up so we don’t look bad in front of all the visitors and media that will be seeing our city. I have my fingers crossed, bring on the games!
