Prince George, B.C. – A new art sculpture, which will be one of the many legacies of the Canada Winter Games, was unveiled today in Canada Games Plaza.

The 4,000 pound, 7 foot Gathering of the Rocks Art Sculpture, was created by artist Clint George of the Penticton Indian Band.

“To be here to create this sculpture that represents the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation, the City of Prince George, and the Canada Winter Games was quite the venture,” said George. “I literally had to sit down for a couple of hours in my shop when I found out I’d be chosen to build it. It was quite the honour.”

The Legacy Prayer Drum was modeled after the traditional hand drum of the Lheidli T’enneh people and will hold the stones that were gathered by elders who attended the BC First Nations Elders Gathering in 2013.

The sculpture includes images of the Canada Winter Games maple leaf, the white sturgeon, a cottonwood tree, and the Fraser and Nechako rivers.

“It’s absolutely beautiful. Clint George deserves a real applause for the work he’s done on this,” said Prince George Mayor Lyn Hall. “It symbolizes the coming together of the entire nation and the thousands of athletes, families, and spectators that we saw over the last couple of weeks.”

He’s also proud of the legacy it will leave the city.

“When you talk about legacy it’s not just the facilities and money that’s left over, it’s all about the symbolism of the Games and what it’s going to mean 10 years down the road. It’ll be standing here and people will see it as a symbol of the Games.”

That is some nice work. I just hope nobody falls on it and sues the city.

Does it scream , coast to coast to coast ? Well, maybe the drum .

Tell me that isn’t a lawsuit waiting to happen.

The feather blades look neat, but its not appropriate for a public place. This if anything should be on a concrete post 10-meters high and should have the blades designed to break off under force. Too many yahoos around that part of town and something like this with pointed blade edges everywhere….

Kids with little hoodies will want to be playing on it, being in a public square and all.

I noticed from “lovely” people have already signed their names on the torch, this thing doesn’t stand a chance once the games are over and the area isn’t patrolled very often.
