Governor General Coming to P.G.

Friday, February 27, 2015 @ 11:44 AM

Prince George, B.C. – The Governor General of Canada, His Excellency David Johnston, will be in Prince George for the closing ceremonies of the Canada Winter Games.

The Governor General is not the only dignitary who will be here for the closing ceremonies. The Lieutenant Governor of B.C., Judith Guichon will be in attendance. The Lieutenant Governor is already in Prince George, having visited with some young folks at Exploration Place this morning, taking a tour of UNBC this afternoon and she will attend some sporting events tomorrow before attending the closing ceremonies on Sunday.

Federal Minister of Sport Bal Gosal will be on hand representing the Federal Government,  but , despite rumours, the Prime Minister will not be coming to Prince George, that is the official word from the PM’s Office.

Premier Christy Clark attended the opening ceremony and will not be here for the closing event, instead, Ministers Shirley Bond and Coralee Oakes will represent the Province.

The Closing Ceremonies will be staged at UNBC, however, seating capacity is limited at that site, so the public has been invited to head to the Canada Games Plaza to watch the event. The Closing Ceremonies are slated to start at 4 p.m. on Sunday

So awesome that all of these exalted figures are coming to this humble town. We should be proud. So many photo ops. This should really put Prince George on the map. Prosperity for all is just around the corner. Why, I’ll bet the economy improves just on the news.

With tongue firmly in cheek, I remain,
metalman.

Metalman, some people complain when our elected and Governmental representatives DON’T come to Prince George and some people complain when our elected and Governmental representatives DO come to Prince George!

Still others complain regardless of what happens!

Metalman, which of these three options do you fall under? ;-)

I find it odd that the PM can’t make the effort to come to PG. A VERY strong conservative riding, and he’s historically been to every Canada Games during his time as PM.

Maybe it’s too safe of a riding for him to even bother showing face.

So why is the event not at CN Center where there would room for every one interested. Cheers

I don’t think we need the politicians here. Too expensive and that money could be used somewhere else.

Who on earth would turn out to see a ‘dignitary’. Would rather meet a writer, or even a 85yr old veteran with stories to tell.

Harper has no interest in PG. Its a safe riding for him, but most importantly Harper is the type to collectively punish… we see it with his Israeli policy as well as his Ukraine policy.

Harper, is a master of game theory. Everything he does is calculated in game theory how it will impact the issues he cares about. Harper doesn’t care about a back woods city that doesn’t even have a local MP and will always vote conservative anyways.

Harper does however care about Enbridge Gateway and in his world if some in the community oppose Gateway, then that is enough to collectively punish the whole community by not showing his support for the Canada Games in PG. Its petty, but that is how he operates.

Furthermore Harper took the time to meet with a nazi like war criminal from Kiev that came to Canada to demand arms for ‘all out war on Russia’. Its a stark contrast the choices, so we can all see where his priorities lay.
