McBride, BC – An avalanche technician will be looking to re-assess the site of a slide in the backcountry near McBride, where one person is confirmed dead and another is missing.

RCMP say they received a call reporting the avalanche in the Dore River drainage area to the McBride Detachment just before 2pm yesterday afternoon.

Police say one snowmobiler was killed and another is believed missing.  Their hometowns are not being released at this time and police decline to comment on whether the pair had been out snowmobiling with a larger group.

Due to extreme hazardous conditions in the area, searchers were not allowed in yesterday.  RCMP say an avalanche technician was able to conduct an aerial survey late yesterday afternoon, but a re-assessment will be done this morning before a decision is made on just when emergency responders can make their way in on the ground.
