Meeting With MP Leaves Legion Rep Feeling “Hopeful”
Prince George, B.C. – “Hopeful.”
That’s how legion zone commander (BC, Yukon) John Scott is feeling following a meeting last week with Prince George-Peace River Conservative MP Bob Zimmer.
It was regarding the 2012 closure of the Veterans Office in Prince George, something Scott says “has been a sore point for local veterans ever since.”
He says veterans “need two dedicated veterans affairs employees,” and says it doesn’t matter where they operate (currently it’s out of the Service Canada office).
“Where they house the office is really nobody’s business but the government’s. But the fact is they have to be veterans affairs trained people (currently he says they’re not).”
Scott says Zimmer hasn’t made promises, but is hopeful nonetheless.
“He made some commitments that he would look into it and he would see if he could help us out and come up with a sound solution to the problem,” he said.
“He’s got to discuss it of course with Veterans Affairs Minister Erin O’Toole. And I have hopes there because he seems to be moving on some of the issues.”
Zimmer confirms it’s an issue he’s working on.
“I’m going to talk to Erin about it. I’ll be talking with him this week just to see what we can do. Something will be coming forthwith.”

I have yet to meet a politician I trust…
I can’t see that changing anytime soon..
but this guy gives me the heebee jeebees..
though I am not going to hold my breath.
for our veterans I hope something is forthcoming…
Wonder why Dick Harris isn’t helping out, after all until the next election he is our representative, who is being paid to do so, and it appears to be being paid for doing NOTHING.
So, if I’m reading you correctly, you feel Mr. Harris is doing exactly what Mr. Zimmer is doing…
yes and even less
Why all the fuss. you have one or two Afghanistan veterans. What about those that served in World II and Korea? The Legion is no longer a veterans organization its about selling booze.
Cheers
Retired 02 – the story is about the Legion advocating to have the Veteran affairs office restored – it’s not for anything for them. And we have more than two veterans that served in Afghanistan, I personally know 3, and I don’t have that great a circle of friends. And let’s not forget the troops we sent to the Balkans in the 90s.
@ bcracer, I don’t know that it’s possible to do less for his constituents than Mr. Zimmer is doing…
