UNBC to Award Honourary Degrees

Tuesday, March 24, 2015 @ 3:40 AM

Prince George, B.C. – UNBC plans to bestow a pair of honourary degrees during convocation ceremonies May 29th.

They will go to Xeni Gwet’in Chief Roger William and former UNBC president Dr. Charles Jago.

William is known for launching an aboriginal rights and title case in 1990, the same year UNBC was founded.

It later resulted in a landmark decision allowing the Tsilhqot’in title over their traditional lands.

Jago was the school’s president from 1995-2006 and again from 2008-2009.

He’s been credited with overseeing a period of tremendous growth at UNBC along with being instrumental in the establishment of the Northern Medical Program.

In addition, he played a key role in the development of the Northern Sport Centre, which also bears his name.
