School District Supports Masich Place Upgrades

Wednesday, April 1, 2015 @ 3:35 AM

Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George School Board unanimously supported a grant application by the City of Prince George that would provide upgrades and renovations to Masich Place Stadium.

Speaking at last night’s meeting, Trustee Bob Harris said “given the condition of the field, this would be a terrific project.”

Trustee Tim Bennett agreed, noting it was both “an amazing opportunity for School District 57 students” and also “a no cost item for the District.”

Chairperson Tony Cable added “we love it costs no money.”

The application for $3.45 million would come from a $28.5 million fund created by the Union of B.C. Municipalities to provide money for projects outside of the Lower Mainland.

If the application is successful, the City says they project would be completed next year.

And what about the Lakewood field. Its such a shame to see how its been allowed to fall into disrepair by the school district. A few dump truck loads of crush rock could sure go a long way for a great practice facility….

Too bad that it is a school district property and not a public city property. The school district has a great arrangement, they can use city facilities like Masich almost at will, but the city cannot use school properties due to school board liability concerns. Pretty sweet deal for school district(s) if you ask me.
