Prince George Boy Picks ‘Hero’
There is now a ‘Hero’ among them photo courtesy RCMP
Prince George, BC – Five-year-old Ayden Delaney said he was ‘too excited to focus’ when it came to an interview…
And what little boy wouldn’t be so soon after learning he’d named an RCMP puppy. The Prince George youngster’s choice is befitting a police service dog – Hero.
Ayden hangs with his mom, Jennifer Metz Facebook
Ayden is one of 13 lucky winners from across the country who named the most recent batch of puppies born at the RCMP Police Dog Service Training Centre.
The PDSTC received more than 21-thousand entries in this year’s Name the Puppy contest – more than twice the number of entries received last year. “Everyone at the Centre was blown away by not only the number, but also the creativity of all the entries,” says Inspector André Lemyre. This year’s suggestions had to start with the letter H.
Ayden’s mom, Jennifer Metz, learned about the contest in her classroom at Cedars Christian school, where she works as an Education Assistant. When she told Ayden, they brainstormed possible ‘H’ names and he liked Hero best.
Metz was tipped off a few weeks ago that Ayden’s suggestion was a winner, but he just found out late last week and was thrilled to share the news with his classmates at Cedars.
Ayden will be receiving a laminated photo of Hero, along with a certificate, a stuffed German Shepherd toy named Justice, and an RCMP cap.
