Mount Polley Re-Start Discussion Tonight
Williams Lake, B.C. – The Gibraltar Room in Williams Lake will be the site of a public discussion regarding the proposed re-start of the Mount Polley mine tonight.
It will include a presentation from the Mount Polley Mining Corporation. Representatives of the regional, provincial and federal governments have also been invited to attend.
Executive director of the Williams Lake and District Chamber of Commerce Claudia Blair says a mine re-start is critical for the local economy.
“The last thing we need is more layoffs. It’s all about jobs, keeping people here, people who spend money in our community,” says Blair. “It’s so important that we keep that industry going and others.”
The meeting is part of a 30-day Public Comment Period related to the re-start applications.
A decision on the permit applications is expected to come in early June.
Tonight’s event runs from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.
