Prince George, B.C. -February was a record breaking month at YXS.
Passenger numbers rose by 34% when compared to the same time a year ago, thanks in large part to the Canada Winter Games.
“The 2015 Canada Winter Games was an incredible time for YXS and Prince George. We are extremely proud with how smooth airport operations went during the Games,” says Prince George Airport Authority President and CEO John Gibson. “We’ve received a lot of positive feedback with how seamless the process was and we look forward to sharing our plan with future Canada Games host city airports.”
In total, 47,461 passengers passed through the gates at YXS, including 130 flights directly related to the Games.

Thank you to Prince George taxpayers who have been paying for the games for the last 4 years.
gitterdun – do you mean to imply that YXS’s good fortune – and consequential increased revenue stream, was indirectly financed by the taxpayer’s of Prince George, and some credit might be due those who made it all happen. Just curious.
That is correct ski51
I guess we get the same news reported in Jan 2016 when they boast about the increased traffic….. Jan 2017, Traffic was down in 2016.
Traffic increased in 2016 and traffic was down in 2016, i just can’t grasp what you are saying.
February’s numbers were to be expected. Now, unless they have something else on the drawing board, they will be back to the quiet times. In fact with the economy sinking, I wouldn’t be surprised to see numbers drop.
With several major events happening here in PG this year I don’t foresee the numbers dropping very much
Northern Fancon, Forest resources expo, major music acts throughout the year, special events and of course conferences and more people travelling all adds up
We will have to wait and see the numbers month by month and quarter by quarter no sense in being negative so early in the year but then again it’s what makes people happy being negative
Maybe Prince George International Airport could add ‘and Spaceport’ to their title and we could get a big sign made up pointed towards Mars saying ‘OPEN FOR BUSINESS’. If we put in a fuel apron for them we could have 5-6 space ships a day for refueling… if we give them a carbon tax exemption we would be taking serious amounts of business from other spaceports in Russia and America….
Build it and they will come… lol.
