It’s Cone Zone Season

Prince George, B.C.- Construction season is about to begin, and that means drivers will need to be reminded to slow down through “cone zones”.
Over the past 10 years in B.C., 15 workers have died, another 223 injured as they carried out their work within a “cone zone”.
Statistics indicated most of the incidents were the result of distracted, aggressive or speeding drivers.
There are three simple ways to avoid an incident:
- Slow down and drive with extreme care near a Cone Zone.
- Stay alert and minimize distractions.
- Think about every cone as if a human being were standing behind it.
If a driver is caught going 20km per hour over the limit in a construction zone, the fine will be $196.

20km over, you get a $196 fine? I thought the law was clear, no tolerance in construction zones, playground zones and school zones and the fines were doubled.
When did, or did that change?
Give More, I have to agree with you.
You are right of course but I have a personal hatred when there are construction zones signs and no workers present. I am even worse when it comes to some of these work areas that the flagman is 5 or 10 km from the signs. As a young man I worked as a flagman for a while. People need to slow down at work sites.
No brainer; Its all about respect for other people.
As one who occasionally has to flag traffic, I have observed that most drivers are respectful of the traffic control persons, and a few aren’t.
I think the 80/20 rule applies here; 80% of the drivers are fine, 20% are best described with words that should not be used around Mothers, small children, or family pets.
As a driver, I am appalled by the careless conduct displayed by some flag persons, careless as in inattentiveness, have these few no survival instinct? Not watching (never ever trusting) the vehicles moving toward you is a sure way to shorten your career as a traffic control specialist.
metalman.
Yes fix up 5th and central, the city should be embarrassed, have not seen the shovel crew since the visitors form the CWG were in town. I seen a duck swimming in one or two.
