A new month begins, and another week comes to a close.
This is your day to speak up on the issues that matter to you. It is time for the FRIDAY FREE FOR ALL.
You pick the topic, but please be respectful of others even if you strongly disagree with their point of view. There are three simple rules:
Keep it clean
Keep it legal

Had to call Telus last night, waited 55 minutes for someone to talk to. Good thing it was a very nice lady who helped me out and to beat all she just lives up the road from us.
@acrider55…. what part of India do you live in ?

Robbed at Gunpoint.
i watched a RCMP speed trap the other day with grat dismay. They they were, hiding behind some bushes with the radar gun like a sniper waiting for the next victim. Highway speed limits are in place for a purpose; your own personal safety, and the safety of the community the highways pass through. It was point and shoot, turn the victory lights on, then a polite vehicle visit where the latest robbery victim was handed a blue slip of paper and told; that will be $196.00 please. Then the RCMP car whipped an illegal u-turn and returned to his hiding place. Time to change the old slogan to “Here to Serve and Collect”. Perhaps I may suggest, hiding in a back alley, and nabbing the people who make their living breaking into homes and garden sheds.
DI
Now that is funny!
Yesterday I went through the intersection at hwy97 and Austin, drove through the potholes hearing stones and tar in my wheel wells. Thinking about it, those potholes were just filled last week, I was shaking my head as I saw the guy hanging out of the pickup door driving back and forth on the patches with his truck. So after one week of this unorthodox pot hole patching, the holes are empty once again. More $ wasted…. You know, I probably wouldn’t say anything about a crappy patch, since we still have frosty temperatures, but given the fact of the half-assed workmanship put into this one I felt I needed to share.
Better idea;
Park the patrol car on the side of the road with the emergency lights on; enjoy a cup of coffee with your buddies at the Timmy’s across the street, and just watch everyone slow down through the window.
We all have found ourselves speeding on the blvd’s and main streets. The coppers are just doing their job to slow down the people. What works better than hitting them in the pocket. Slow the traffic down to posted speeds, or there abouts. Not 20km over it. Their also trying to stop or reduce grief. Accidents happen, and happens faster at higher speeds.
I like the automatic speed display they have. That is what reminds me to slow down, it works.
I would rather take an extra minute to go across town, than to be in a preventable accident. It’s just a little respect for everyone else.
POTHOLES
Start with 5th and central, the city should be embarrassed, have not seen the shovel crew since the visitors from the CWG were in town.
I seen a duck swimming in one or two.
Other places I heard of people looking for there lost dog or cat in them.
Most certainly could break and axle with a small car and would need a tow truck to pull you our.
If you want to speed drive the hart.. Evryone up there seems to view the posted speed limit as a minimum.. I now know where wanna be NASCAR drivers live..lol
Either wanna be NASCAR drivers, or everyone has dyslexia. I’m sure the Speed Limit going up the hill is 60 not 90!

Most people can’t read the “Keep Right Except To Pass” signs; do you honestly think they can read the speed limit signs?
A lot of people use the left lane to speed, not to pass. Passing is just an excuse to speed.
I have no problem with speed traps and tickets. They usually have a 20km cushion so if they catch you, it is a well deserved ticket.
If you see them you hit the brakes and it doesn’t teach you anything.
I was just out in the BCR last Sunday night at around midnight, standing there I was passed by 4 vehicles going at least 150km
Palopu, there are 2 concepts that you have to wrap your head around
1) The speed of traffic and the speed limit are two entirely different things.
If you travel on any multi lane highway in virtually any jurisdiction you will find that the actual speed that traffic is moving will be 10% to 15% above the posted speed limit. That is if the truckers and slower drivers do their part and stay in the right hand lane.
2)The authorities use the speed that 85% of the traffic is travelling at to determine who is speeding. Sometimes during bad weather or adverse road conditions that number is lower than the posted limit, and then again in light traffic, good weather and good road conditions that number is higher than posted.
This almost fanatical attitude that if you are doing the speed limit nobody should be allowed to pass is misguided!
Well I don’t want to spoil all the fun on your comments about speeding up the Hart but I have to wish all my friends in Gorge a happy good morning and I hope that jimmy’s wife isn’t squeezing him to hard so that he will give us some of his greet wisdom instead of the usual sarcasm that he loves to hand out.
Spent last Friday in Tofino with a gathering of Korean war veterans that we have each April in Tofino. The UN spent three years in Korea and freed a country from communist oppression but our friend to the south had to avenged his 911 event and after 12 years and more there is no resolution to end a religious war that has been going on for centuries.
And our friend with bill C51 is trying to gain fame by sending a few aircraft to the middle east to strafe and maim the inhabitants. He spent 18 billion in Afghanistan when will this stupidity stop. If it doesn’t stop soon we will be a third world country.
Well that’s it for today. See you next Friday.
Cheers

Unfortunately, there are way too many drivers that share this sense of entitlement. Or is it just small man syndrome?
Traffic would flow so much nicer if people would use a little common sense and a little common courtesy. Some people get insulted if someone is driving faster then them although it doesn’t mean anything other then they are driving faster then you. Your sense of self worth shouldn’t be based on someone’s driving.
NyteHawwk … I am looking for support of your position in the form of direct quotes from the MVA, ICBC website, RCMP website, anything, etc. Can you help me out with this search? It would be nice to have the actual references supporting your position in print so the next time I get pulled over I can educate the officer or if I end up in court I can help the judge see the light.
axman … too funny, Minister Stone’s recent belated apology for his most recent speeding ticket would suggest that even the lead foot himself doesn’t agree with you.
The posted speed limit going up the Hart is a joke. There is not one person I have ever witnessed do the speed limit there. If you have a hard time controlling your vehicle going up that hill at 80km, you should not be driving.
There is a big difference between driving in PG and on a four lane highway which some don’t seem to understand. Why all tis fuss about “keeping right except to pass”. That works fine on a four lane highway but doesn’t work worth on Ospika Blvd where the rule is, “outside lane is for “ON OFF” and the left lane is for “THROUGH TRAFFIC”. And let the jerk that wants to speed do his thing sooner or later he will meet his waterloo.
And tell me where in PG do you see a sign that tells you “to keep right except to pass”
Cheers
Your all a bunch of whining babies with too much time on your hands.
The police are barely reactive and definitely not proactive in this town. They will pop up from time to time to catch some speeders and collect the fine money.
The RCMP is doing what it is mandated to do! I have no problem with them writing as many tickets as possible. With so many drivers speeding, ignoring stop signs, doing stupid things at 4-way stop intersections, impeding traffic by stopping instead of merging and so forth…it is a potential gold mine out there! Since the fines collected are returned to the City as a bonus income they can be used to pay off the new RCMP quarters at an accelerated pace! Win-win for the law abiding tax paying drivers! So keep up the good work! The more enforcement – the better!
Like the new law, if you are driving around with your light bar uncovered during daylight hours it is $109.00 fine. “Reason” sunlight could cause a glare blinding on coming traffic. I guess people should look at painting their chrome flat black because it has the potential to create the same scenario.
Who comes up with this????
How about the volcanic activity in Oregon today ? And off their coast ?

He’s a politician. What he says and what he believes are usually not the same.
I have to go see my doctor after a visit to the nechako clinic. My symptoms are such that it was recommended to go to my family physician.
I went to the nechako clinic because it has been a problem getting into see marquis because every time I phone, all I get is the receptionist on the answering machine that does not take messages (unbelievable), advising that “she” is not available due to helping other patients or doctors or whatever. On top of that they are not open on Monday or Friday, and only open Tuesday to Thursday from 10 till 4:30.
Have doctors forgotten that they are in the service industry?
Have doctors forgotten that their patients are their customers that pay their bills including their student loans and Mercedes payment.
I really don’t care what ever good Samaritan activities they are doing outside of their office. If they don’t want to serve, then choose another profession. I need to see MY family physician.
Now we have this fricken UNHBC teaching hospital that does not seem to add any physician services to this town.
More total waste of money and land.
Get me a doctor, stat!

I actually agree with you on this statement … Minister Stone cannot say what he believes (or justify how he acts) because speeding is NOT defensible. Now if the Minister responsible for Act cannot justify speeding; how can anyone else?
Just a quick thanks to the young male driver of a white Sunfire whose impeccable aim succeeded in splashing me twice from the same water filled pothole yesterday in front of the Hart mall. I was a good 8′ feet away from the hole but you sped up to make sure that the front AND rear wheels would splash down with full force. Just one question for you;
Does the ‘L’ on the back of your car signify your Lack of consciousness?

Maverick 1965, Sorry to say but the lights being covered has been a law for a longtime already. Our logging truck has great lights on it but can only be used on Forestry Roads. He has been going through the Ministry scales forever with them covered. To be honest he was getting kinda pissed that so many lights on vehicles now aren’t. It’s a good law, very hard to stay on the road when an oncoming vehicle has those white lights or light bars in your eyes. Now something to complain about is the lines not being painted on the highway so that there is something to look at when being blinded by the bright white lights.
Lots of laws people chose to ignore, how many people know that you have to come to a full stop when turning right if the lane you are turning from has a red light, even if you are in a “turn lane”? Then you can proceed only after yielding to traffic.
You are allowed 2 driving lights or 2 fog lamps uncovered as long as they are the correct measurements from the ground and have the correct aim as spelled oput in the regulations (yes headlights and fog/driving lights have to be aimed correctly). Once they exceed the max height they have to be covered while on the “highway” whether they are operational or not.
If our city had it’s own police force to enforce only traffic violations , our tax’s could drop by 80 % ….
how about it councillor’s ?
Good one DI! Had a good laugh. Quick thinking on your part. :)
The second greatest BS story ever told…………..speeding is a major cause of accidents!
Not a major cause Furbink – but a cause. It takes about 36 feet more to stop between 80 km an hour and 70 km an hour. A deer jumps on the highway, you might want those 36 feet, especially if your kid is in the next seat and the airbag breaks their nose. The speed limits were designed by engineers to be a balance between safety and traffic flow.
I concede distracted driving, tailgating, failure to stop at stop lights, signs etc., are all worse, but they are also all harder to catch.
There is a correlation that people who like to speed, strangely enough, also like to text and drive, tailgate, roll through stop signs etc., so this is an easy way to get at them. And we know this, because if a person is indifferent to speed limits, they are indifferent to most of the regulations.
Its pretty obvious that those people that speed on a continual basis use the **left lane for passing** as an excuse.
I personally drove at different speeds on the Hart just to watch these people in action.
1. When I do 70 in the right lane they pass.
2. When I do 80 in the right lane they pass.
3. When I do 90 in the right lane they pass.
I agree that the flow of traffic should determine how fast people travel, however I disagree that these **speeders** should be the ones to determine the traffic flow.
You can watch these people all the way from Austin Road, to the John Hart bridge, weaving in and out of traffic, only to end up at the stop light at 5th and 97 along with all the cars they passed.
It has nothing to do with the flow of traffic or the left lane right lane issue. It has more to do with people sleeping in, in the morning, and being in a rush, or being in a hurry to get home to crack a cool one.
I note that a lot of the **speeders** turn off at the first Tim Hortons they come to and then sit in the line and wait for their morning coffee.
I was up set to see in our paper this morning we are losing our Blood donation clinic . I have Rh O Negative blood they are always on the radio looking for my blood type . I also have Hemochromatosis (Iron overload) I have to get rid of blood twice a year. I went to the Hospital there equipment is nothing like the blood clinic it takes a long time at the Hospital and it breaks my heart they throw it away. So this is a big loss for our City and I have to ask why us again??and why do we stand for it? Kamloops has a mobile clinic why not us?
Why can’t Canadian Blood Services give some of their equipment to our local hospital as they will be busy with people like me with Hemochromatosis and other problems maybe the Hospital can hire some of the trained staff from the blood donation clinic?? How about that Nothern Health ?
I wonder if a guy can take the cell phone company to small claims court for fraudulent billing or if a precedence has already been set?
I tried to make a 411 call a few weeks back… Seen a highway accident and closure and wanted the number to 250news… It’s all automated now and they give me the number for the giro temple in Surrey first try, then a dog grooming place on second try, and I asked for an operator on third try but the option is not available. So they don’t give an option to see if you accept the charges or even if the computer got the right request… It’s just a number generator that randomly picks a number based on faulty voice recognition software.
To me this is billing fraud… $2.50 per try…wow… Who would have known. It’s complete billing fraud and yet the phone company says it’s not their issue as all phone companies use the same service provider and it’s a third party bill that I must pay.
What is this country coming to when they can legally rip you off for service not rendered?
Ataloss, something strange going on with the earthquakes and volcanos last week. Did you know that five volcanos around the world went off simultaneously for the first time ever recorded… All within an hour of each other… Followed by a big one on South America, Utah, and off our coast, then of course Nepal all within hours of each other. I wouldn’t at all be surprised if we see more activity in BC, even the big one is possible.
I agree with the notion that traffic tickets are mostly about targeted revenue generation and not so much road safety. I got a seat belt ticket a few weeks back by the same officer that has ticketed me for all my infractions over the last 6-7 years.
This time I had stopped at Community Futures on 6th ave.. Had the baby in the back seat.. Pulled out from the street side to the stop sigh… Had my seat belt pulled down so I could reach the baby bottle on the floor and give it back… When Sgt drove by pointing at me. I though what is that about.. Then his lights go on and he pulls me over the other side of the intersection for another $167 fine.
It’s just an officers discrimination for tax revenue and nothing more. It had nothing to do with traffic violations. I was stopped with no cars behind me and only the officer driving through with the right of way. What can a person do, but pay up for an offence that never occurred.

what is a good speed to hit a deer? if 70 is better than 90 then 30 is better than 70. You could boil this down to ‘nobody moves nobody gets hurt’ besides the way the screws are been tightened by the dicktatership running the country we will not be discussing this as there will be only public transportation……you know for our own safety and all.
Its pretty obvious that those people that speed on a continual basis use the **left lane for passing** as an excuse.
———-
Why does this bug you so much? Why not just move over and let them by? Right or wrong on the driver’s part, it serves no purpose for someone to deliberately sit in the left hand slowing down traffic.
Furbink, road engineers designed the speed limits for the balance of flow and safety. Obviously we can never be perfectly safe, but the limits provide us a good balance. These limits take into account things like sight lines – Couqahilla hwy has great sight lines, and a 120 km speed limit, and the Hart has poor sight lines, so a 70 km an hour limit. Accidents will happen at 70 km, but the damage and injury will be lessened, vs the standard 90 km currently being driven.
But speed away. What really pisses me off about speeders, is if there isn’t two lanes, they get on your ass, forcing me to slow down to the speed safe for the distance they are following. I really don’t care how fast people go, I just want to be left alone to drive the speed limit without being pushed, and I keep right, except to pass.
If speeding is the topic I would like to send a big “Holy Crap” to the two Home Hardware Central Builders trucks that were just on Ospika Blvd. You had to be doing between 70 -80 kmh. In the 50kmh section.
I am absolutely appalled and embarrassed at the driving in this city.
Today I was hit by a fat woman in an SUV while riding my bike to work.
People here not only take driving for granted, but they also SUCK at it.
The lack of paint on the roads is NOT an excuse for people to be ignorant and inattentive, however, it would definitely help if lanes were painted properly, so people weren’t left to guess if they were on the right side or in the centre. Also, bike lanes are all but non-existent in this city.
On top of the lack of paint is the road signs that LICENSED drive`s seem to have entirely forgotten since their initial driver’s training. On multiple occasions I have witnessed pedestrians who I had stopped at crosswalks for, almost getting struck by drivers in the adjacent lane, who failed to put two-and-two, together. Do we need fluorescents and lighting around all pedestrian walkway signs around town, like the one on Carney north?
To ALL drivers out there – WAKE UP! No one should be injured or killed due to YOUR IGNORANCE. There are NO excuses. You are a licensed driver, start acting like you have even an inkling of an idea of what you are doing. Do you want the blood of an innocent person on your hands because you were sending that oh-so-important text message, or simply due to pure ignorance?
Think about the time of year – good road conditions don’t mean PAY LESS ATTENTION AND GO FASTER, it means some people, who aren’t lazy, are out there walking and biking, like people should be in good weather. And to all of you complete morons out there who actually text and drive – not only is it against the law, but it is the action only a complete idiot would indulge in; choosing to text and drive says lots about your character and intelligence, and also about how much you value not only your own life, but the lives of others – not at all! Your laziness and inattentiveness shouldn`t be the reason healthy citizens pay the ultimate price. Think about it – think hard!
Did this post piss you off? Good! It means you are part of the problem and need a serious reality check!
He spoke says, “I like the automatic speed display they have. That is what reminds me to slow down, it works”
Since they installed one of those boards on Malaspina, there has been a definite increase in speed due to some drivers using the new board to see exactly how fast they can go when racing down Malaspina from Domano. They turn the corner off of Domano onto Malaspina and it’s pedal to the metal!

Then where will the tax police generate the lost traffic fine revenue from, “people breathing the air too fast”?
Yes, but it will be charged out on lung capacity.

That’s gigawatts
People speeding don’t bother me. For the most part I stay in the right lane except to pass, and let the donut holes go by,.
Its a form of entertainment. One wonders how long it takes for some people to **get it**.
I wish it was jigawatts slinky.. But it’s cash in the hands of First Nations… The news hasn’t quite fully disemmentated yet..
