Road Rehab Season Underway

Prince George, B.C.- The City of Prince George has started its road rehab program for 2015. Between now and the end of October, $7 million dollars will be spent on 51 projects throughout the City.There are seven projects already underway :
- Foothills Boulevard South bound between 1st Avenue and 5th Avenue. Estimated cost$373,000.
- Spruce Street between 20th Avenue and Milburn Avenue. Estimated cost $75,000.
- Killoren Crescent between 5th Avenue and Hunter Avenue. Estimated cost $65,000.
- Ewert Street between 8th Avenue and 10th Avenue. Estimated cost $59,000.
- North Nechako Road between Sydney Place and Hwy 97 intersection. Estimated cost $168,000.
- Massey Drive East bound between Coyle Street and Ospika Boulevard. Estimated cost $65,000.
- Continental Way between 2011 paving limit and Industrial Way. Estimated cost $216,000.
Weather permitting, the seven projects should be wrapped up by the 14th of May.

I’ll be smiles from ear to ear this summer if the overall road situation in this City starts to improve. $7M is a decent some of money. Would have been nice to get $10M like last year, but $7M should work. I just hope City Council understands that this is what this City needs for paving EVERY YEAR for probably at least the next 10 years.
There are so many roads in neighbourhoods that are in desperate need of paving it’s not even funny. Then there’s the pavement that doesn’t last because of water freeze/thaw and tonne’s of traffic on it. It doesn’t take long to spend $7M with this amount of decay going on.
Go PG!! Let the improvements begin!!
Does anybody know why Tyner Blvd is already getting re-paved? It’s number 37 on the list. This makes little sense to me. I’m sure there are other roads in PG in much greater need than the back road to the University……
It’s not the bit of Tyner that they did last year – it’s the remaining piece. It’s awful. Most people drive over the white line or over the center line most of the way just to avoid all the potholes and old patches. I wouldn’t really call it a back road to the university. It gets quite busy and it’s a bus route. I was surprised they didn’t fix it last year.
Tyner towards Hwy 16 (before University Heights) is collapsing – the sub-surface is giving away completely on the western edge and the road is getting destroyed. However, mere resurfacing will not fix it so it will crumble again and again until they rebuild it from the bottom up.
Bear road is ignored again. For the heavy traffic volume I will rate it as the worst road in PG. For those not familiar, give it a try you will be amazed. Also watch out for pedestrians as generally no shoulder for them to walk on and no street lights.

I was reading on the CKPG site that the city has applied for funding for a bypass from Gauthier Rd on Hwy 16 West to Boundary Rd in the BCR site. That will be interesting to watch, hopefully it goes through and removes some of the tractor trailer traffic travelling through the city.

That’s going to be one expensive bypass!
I bet it would be used more than the runway extension and boundary road.
What’s your favourite pothole in PG??? Mine is the big’un in the left turn lane when you are crossing the highway at 5th ave heading west. That son of a gun is big enough to eat a Prius whole LOL!
Trouble is no matter how much money they throw at it, it’s never enough when a patching crew involves at least two guys leaning on goon spoons while another guy dumps cold asphalt into a wet hole!
