Prince George, B.C.-It started on Saturday,  and  has grown to more than 2,500 hectares.

Labelled the “Little Bobtail Lake” fire,  it is about 10 km south of Norman Lake and continues to burn  despite the work of more than two dozen firefighters  and heavy equipment  operators.

Fanned by warm winds and  pleasant temperatures,  the fire, has prompted an evacuation order (see previous story here).

The cause of the fire  is still under investigation.

As of late yesterday, there were two helicopters  dumping water on the  blaze,  air tankers had provided  support on  Saturday.  There are  26 firefighters,  5 pieces  of heavy equipment, an incident commander along with three support personnel all on scene.

Smoke from this fire  continues to drift into Prince George, and is  very visible from Highway 16 West.

An update  on the  fire is expected later this morning.

Two logging contracting  teams working in the area were trying desperately last night to get about a dozen pieces of equipment out if the area.

BC Forest Fire site is now saying the fire is only 3 km south of Norman Lake and folks are being evacuated from this lake and the bobtail lake area. It’s getting serious! Sadly like most of the lakes, Norman Lake has plenty of dead trees to feed this fire. Love this lake, hope the cabins/homes can be saved….

CBC reported this morning that the fire was likely human caused, sad.

Don’t flick your butts out the window people and put out your fires – I see people tossing butts into bark mulch and planters all the time around town without thinking. The Barriere fire by Kamloops was started in the back yard of a home years back, think it was a volunteer firefighter too if I remember correctly.

It wasn’t in a backyard, it was up the mountain and ignited by a discarded lit smoke.
