Warm Temps Make Rivers Rise
Prince George, B.C.- The River Forecast Centre has issued high streamflow advisories for some rivers and a flood watch for the Smithers area.
The BC River Forecast Centre has issued a Flood Watch for the Bulkley River, as it has risen over the past few days because of the rapid melt brought on by warmer temperatures.

Rivers through the Smithers area, including areas around Ebenezer Flats, may reach flood stage by Wednesday or Thursday. Significant additional rises are expected into the weekend.
The Nechako River’s level has risen over the past week as discharge from the Nechako reservoir was increased to 275cubic meters per second, and the warm temperatures over the past week have increased snow melt at high elevations in the Nechako basin.
The BC River Forecast Centre is maintaining a High Streamflow Advisory for:
- Nautley River near Fort Fraser
- Nechako River at VanderhoofFlows on the Nechako River at Isle Pierre were over 770 m3/s this morning and are expected to continue to increase this week.
The Nautley River near Fort Fraser is expected to reach 215 m3/s by tomorrow, while the Nechako River at Vanderhoof is forecast to reach 525 m3/s by Thursday.
Flows on the Fraser River at South Fort George are expected to rise but remain below levels of concern.
According to the latest snowpack report, the snowpack in the Nechako basin was 118% of normal for the start of May while the Upper Fraser West was recorded at 155% of normal.
