Prince George, B.C. – There was a fairly steady stream of donors showing up at the Canadian Blood Services blood donor clinic in Prince George on Saturday, and they’re not done yet.

Back at the end of April it was announced that the Prince George clinic on Westwood Drive was to be one of the three permanent clinics in Canada to be permanently closed by June 1st.  The reason given was a “slight but steady” decline in demand for blood products.  The local closure will mean the closest place to donate blood will be Kamloops.

However, the Prince George clinic hasn’t closed its doors just yet.  As noted the clinic Saturday had a pretty good turnout although one worker said some of the regular donors didn’t turn out because they believe the clinic was already closed while others are angry the clinic is being shut down and don’t understand the rationale for the move.

Two more clinics are being held here before the axe falls, affecting 13 part time and 4 casual employees as well as 50 volunteers.  There is one this coming Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the final clinic Thursday, same hours, with a few goodies tossed in to wrap things up.
