Prince George, B.C. – Those wanting to cut back on their hydro bills need look no further.
BC Hydro is currently collecting and recycling secondary fridges for free.
“Refrigerators are one of the most energy-consuming appliances in a home – they run 24 hours a day,” says Pat Mathot, Power Smart Residential manager.
And while newer models of Energy Star refrigerators are more efficient, he calls the older fridges “power guzzlers.”
In fact since 2007, Mathot says BC Hydro has collected over 250,000 fridges which has saved consumers $23 million in electricity costs.
Those wanting to take advantage of the refrigerator buy-back program will collect $30 for each fridge.
