Tax Notices Being Delivered

Prince George, B.C.- The tax notices for Prince George have been mailed, and in some cases, may have already been delivered to property owners. This year, about 28 thousand notices have been issued to Prince George property owners.
The City held the increase in tax revenue to 2.5% for 2015, in order to collect nearly $89 million dollars in revenue.
The rate paid per property will depend on the property classification, and assessment.

An average of $3,178 per property owner. Hefty load to carry for 180,000 people. Would be nice to spread the tax burden between everyone rather than just the property owners.
The population within the City limit is close to 75,000, not 180,000. You may have wanted to type 80,000.
The municipal taxes are actually about 2/3rds of the total tax bill. The rest goes to the regional district, Fraser Fort George Regional Hospital (notice the City has not updated their database yet to the new name – a little slow in the uptake as usual), BC Assessment and SD57.
If you are renting and not paying property tax, part of your rent money is used by the property owner to pay the property tax.
If you own a dwelling unit there could be anything from one to let’s say close to 3 on average and more living in that unit. The total household income, which this days typically involves more than one person earning money, goes toward that property tax.
It is false to think that 28,000 individuals pay for 75,000 individuals. The reason why it is false is because it mixes households with city population. The household pays the tax and the business pays the tax. They, in turn, collect money from others to help pay that tax.
Where does the business get the money from to pay the tax? From its customers, which might be local or might be from other parts of the world, depending on the business.
Enough of the freeloaders in the regional district, time to pay a flat fee. It’s a joke the people in Pineview pay squat to live in a city they can see from their front lawns, same goes for the freeloaders in Beaverly. They all use our city services every day, our roads and contribute very little to our tax infrastructure.

Those freeloaders contribute an awful lot to the PG tax infrastructure. Every time the come in to town to shop they’re dropping money into the PG coffers.
What we really need to do is eliminate the over bloated and overpaid municipal work force. 50 million dollars a year in salaries. Wow.
