Nanguz Moves From CWG to the Y
Prince George, B.C. – Representatives of the 2015 Canada Winter Games Host Society teamed up with the YMCA at Masich Place Stadium this morning to tell the city that Nanguz lives, and will do so in perpetuity.
Marketing and Communications Director Mike Davis says Nanguz, the official mascot of the Games, has now left the Games Society to become the official mascot of the YMCA. Davis says “the Y was the sponsor of the mascot program during the games and they had a committee that worked with us in terms of planning and how we engaged the community, so the Y is very familiar with what we did during the games with Nanguz. We’ve worked with their team to transfer Nanguz over and now the Y will establish what they feel will be their protocol for how he is used in the community.”
Davis says “certainly for us it made a lot of sense. I mean legacies come in a lot of different forms and for us to be able to transfer this on, it’s a real sustainable approach and keeps the story of Nanguz alive and the spirit of the games alive as well.”
Davis believes this is a first. “We don’t believe this has been done in past games. Typically a mascot does its duty with the games and then it ends, so it’s neat for us to continue this on. Our mascot was everywhere, all across Canada and in northern B.C. in particular we travelled over 53-hundred kilometers and 28 communities so very well known. And for him to continue with the YMCA, it’s really neat.”
The announcement was made just before the start of the Healthy Kids Marathon at Masich Place Stadium. Today is the YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day, a nation-wide family event that promotes healthy living.

Did we mention the WMCA is funded by government tax money. Over one million per year.
Will the kids still have to pay 500$ for a picture with this awfully named, awful looking, mascot?
Wow… Nanguz the (fox) mascot lives on. I was thinking he would have been this by now:

Sophic have a look at the link in tonyseba ( S) latest tweet . It’s 23 minutes but full of value to investors .
r2 I bet your proud of your home town woman beating the China team yesterday . I find it amazing that over a billion people world wide were watching Edmonton yesterday and not even a peep from twofivezero . I’m sure that with 88k people in your area , that a little more than a few care about it . I hope it’s not because they are only girls. We should be proud of our national team . I certainly am .
good to know that this mascot is being repurposed..
it would be sad to think it would be rotting away in some closet..
money not wasted FINALLY!
onemansthoughts; you are correct, most non-profit, registered charities, are politically non-partisan. Not so with the PGYMCA, this organization is a staunch supporter of the Liberal – Conservative party. Photo Op Shirley Bond, in the background, can attest to this fact.
PG101@What is wrong with the name and figure? I haven’t heard any dislike for them.
@billposer – ‘Nanguz’? Really? Could they pick any less memorable of a name? Oh,and did you see the ransom they wanted for this idiot to come to your corporate, or kids bday party? There was a reason you never saw this little weasel at any corporate functions…
Pg101 hates everything bill poser. To bad he can’t at least be original in his posts.
Oh look, here comes P Val and her enormous ‘mom jeans’ to stalk me again.
See what I mean ;)
So page so all those ngo’s like, tides, Greenpeace seirra club who don’t report their funding from out of the country are ok then. Did you know Greenpeace gave their top managers huge raises while those in the trenches got peanuts. Hey just like a corporation, imagine that.
Interesting how a bird watching club can be targeted for a CRA audit, because of political activity, yet the YMCA doesn’t have to worry. I guess orgs that support, and are affiliated with, the government in power need not worry about their political activity.
Any orgs that dare do anything political; which is contrary to our fascist regime’s agenda, Harper will have his CRA watchdogs all over them. Another sign of us moving towards a fascist state folks… we all must comply, resistance is futile.

Seamutt how would you know whether or not greenpeace or the Sierra club declare foreign contributions ? And the greenpeace pay scale ?
Nice to see that the wingnuts are out tonight!
Hi Sophic and Ataloos! How are things in this terrible country of ours? Planning to renounce your citizenship and leave us anytime soon? Or are you perhaps having trouble finding a country that will take you?
G’nite, sleep tight and don’t let Stephen Harper’s nasty ol’ bed bugs bite you!
By the way, my comment about the wingnuts being out tonight, followed by my hello to both Sophic and Ataloss is not intended to imply that I think that they are the wingnuts that I speak of!
I’ll leave that decision up to the rest of you!

One extremely lonely woman talking to herself on 250. Hope everyone else enjoyed the weekend.
Nanguz is a stupid, annoying name. Probably FN crap.
