Internet Service Restored

Tuesday, June 9, 2015 @ 9:18 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Shaw’s internet service has been restored.

It was disrupted for several hours this morning from the Okanagan up through Prince George.

Shaw originally attributed the outage to a highway crew who accidentally ripped up some fibre cable but now say that’s not the case.

They say the cause is under investigation.

Shaw’s Internet service may have been restored, however restoring customer faith in reliable service took a bit of a hit. This affected a lot of businesses from the Okanagan through to Prince George. It would be a good idea for them to put out a press release stating the cause of the outage, once that has been determined.

I agree Sophic, but it seems with telecommunication companies it’s a race to the bottom in customer service. Telus is my home internet provider, my speed has been well below advertised maximum, and started dropping below the advertised minimum. I wrote head office a letter, talked to some guy with supposedly some power, had to do log tests, had to do a phone support call, before they would send a guy out, who came and first words out of his mouth “you realize this is a known problem.” They don’t have enough capacity at the junction box, and they’re waiting for the budget to replace it – and apparently no one told head office this, who put me through a bunch of hoops. Frankly, Shaw, Rogers, Telus, Bell – I think they had a meeting one day and said – now that we don’t have to worry about CRTC (CRTC does not regulate internet) as long as we’re all equally crappy, we’ve got nothing to worry about.

ski51 agree with you about your comment of in regards to internet suppliers that “as we’re all equally crappy, we’ve got nothing to worry about.”

Is there worse customer service than Shaw?

Yes, there is indeed a worse customer than Shaw, it is called Telus. ihad enough of Telus phone and internet services about 5 years ago and switched both to Shaw. To date I have had no major problems with Shaw and am happy with their service for both phone and internet.

I dumped Telus years ago. I had lousy service, was usually on hold for extended periods of time before speaking to someone in India, Pakistan or some other foreign location.

Have had Shaw for cable, internet and phone for sometime now. Have had excellent service. The occasional short term outage is hardly something worth getting worked up over! If and when the service is lost, I’m fairly confident that the Shaw technicians are busy trying to restore service. Before long, service is back and the world didn’t end!

Exactly Hart Guy. After losing my Telus service three times in one year it was time to say goodbye to Telus. Each time it took them four days to correct their problem. Been smooth sailing with Shaw.

just remember you don’t have to be a ten when everyone else is a two
