Lytton Area Fire Doubles
Kamloops, B.C.- The wildfire burning south of Lytton has double in size overnight and is now estimated to be about 1300 hectares.
(photo at right of fire courtesy BC Wildfire Management Branch)An evacuation order has been issued b the Lytton First Nations Band for 10 properties, residents of another 60-65 properties are on evacuation alert.
Sprinkler protection has been set up on properties immediately at risk.
Crews conducted burn off operations last evening and overnight, and crews are keeping a close watch for high winds.
The fire is generating a great deal of smoke which is being carried throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre region. Smoke is visible within the Kamloops, Merritt and Vernon areas.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, but early indications are it was human caused as there had been no lightning strikes in the area when the fire was reported.
