Green Candidate Steps Forward in PG-Peace River
Prince George, B.C. – It won’t be long before Prince George-Peace River Conservative MP Bob Zimmer has some competition when it comes to this October’s federal election.
This as Karen McDowell of the Green Party has announced plans to seek the nomination in the riding.
McDowell, who is also the party’s Electoral District Association (EDA) CEO in Prince George-Peace River, is no stranger to politics, having run unsuccessfully for the Greens in the 2013 provincial election in the Prince George-Mackenzie riding.
So why run federally?
“Because I don’t think the government in place represents Canadians. I don’t think that a first-past-the-post electoral system is fair or right and I think proportional representation is really important,” she said. “Also I don’t think the environment is a serious consideration for this government.”
McDowell also opposes Bill C-51 and the Canada-China Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA).
“I think that’s part of our political strategy for this election, to really drive that wedge into splitting the Conservatives. Items like C-51 and FIPA have caused a lot of dissent within the Conservative ranks.”
She says “up to three people” are interested in running and notes a nomination meeting has been tentatively scheduled for the third week of July.
Meanwhile the NDP are expected to announce shortly who plans to run for the nomination for their party while the Liberals are also busy at work.
“Over the past few years we have seen, and we continue to see, very encouraging and steadily increasing interest in our local Associations,” says Heather Sanford, acting president of the Prince George-Peace River federal Liberal EDA and president of the Cariboo-Prince George EDA. “We now have a solid core group of organizers that spans both ridings and a number of strong potential candidates.”
She expects the Liberals will have a candidate nominated in Cariboo-Prince George by “early September,” but no word yet on Prince George-Peace River.
Three NDP candidates in Cariboo-Prince George have already announced their intentions to seek their party’s nomination: Laura Zimmerman, Debora Munoz and Trent Derrick.
McDowell says she is also involved in the Cariboo-Prince George riding but says the Green Party are currently in the process of “trying to figure out” who may run there.
A possible independent candidate, CNC instructor Sheldon Clare, has also expressed interest in running in Cariboo-Prince George, but told 250 News Saturday he hasn’t made up his mind yet.

Running Independents in the Provincial Election makes sense to me, because it gives you an alternative to the Liberals and NDP, however the next Provincial Election should have Conservative candidates, so there will be an alternative of sorts.
Not sure what running as an independent in the Federal Election will do other than to split the vote, and get some name recognition for Clare.

So there will be far right (Conservatives), centre right (Liberals) and far left (NDP)? Who is going to take up the centre left? Maybe some folks from the existing parties will decide to leave their current home and create a “new” party?
Federally, we have the Liberals (centre left), the NDP (far left) and the Conservatives (far right since the merger, the influx of Reformers and the purging of the “Progressive” brand) but nobody really representing the centre right.
It’s all so confusing. And we wonder why people can’t figure out who stands for what, LOL.
Like the former US southern Senator said, “That’s what I stand for, folks. Them’s my principles, and if you don’t like ’em, I’ll change ’em.”
Good on her for standing up, there are always lots of complainers but very few will stand up and put their name on the ballot.
Just like the dippers, the greenies are heavy into recycling. Not so sure it is a good formula for political candidates…time to chuck them all in the compost pile.
As a memorial they could name a bush after them….Perennial Loser …..would fit like a glove:D
It’s going to be tough for Karen to run against Bob he’s FOR cheap untracable guns . I wonder how his anti “United Nations transnational gun and human smuggling protocol ” private members bill went . Did it pass ? I’m sure it must have . He’s such a mover and shaker in the party of one . How you gonna run aginst dat in heehawville .
If she drinks wine and can tell poor jokes like Lizzy she’s a keeper.
sparrow, we could have acres and acres covered with these Perennial Loser bushes! Just think how much CO2 they could absorb!
Ataloss, those of us who personally know Bob have no trouble whatsoever believing that he is a man of integrity! Having known Bob for many, many years, I feel confident that his level of personal integrity exceeds yours by far!
Bob put his name on a ballot! What have you done?
Oh, you put posts of Opinion250!
Let’s hope she doesn’t leave her drink unattended . Be careful Karen . Don’t put anything past the teaparty north .
Bob put his name on a ballot! What have you done?
I’ ve spent my hard won money paying him to warm the back bench like the rest of us 61 % that he does nothing for . Hell he didn’t even give us a gazebo . Show us the money Bob .
“…those of us who personally know Bob…”
Sure you do. And we should believe you because….?
In order to appear to be a fresh new face to represent the greens then perhaps Karen should consider a change of name so she does not seem to be just another tired old retread.
You want something that shouts GREEN.
Something that expresses the back to nature movement at the core of the party.
Protecting mother earth and being all natural.
Hmmmmmmm?
Got IT!!!
Harry Pitts!!!!
Sure you do. And we should believe you because….? Because unlike you and me , he puts up posts on opinion250 . Does that make sense hart guy ?
Funny how the right wing radicals are so terrorized by the Green Party . Stevie is spit scared of Liz the BS slayer May . Nice for Karen . I hope she reads this comment section . You can smell the stink of fear . Heck she only got 5.69 % of the last provincial vote . Maybe the voters are clued into how badly managed the country has been and how much has been lost .
@ Karen . First they ignore you . Then they laugh at you . Then they fight you . Then you win . Mahatma Gandi . Looks like they are nervously laughing at you .
Oh Ataloss, how on earth are you going to handle the Conservatives winning the next (another) election?
Will we call you Ataloser after that?
The left tards and greens being such a violent group is the reason they are so scared of Bill c51. Scared of a higher level of investigation to curb their violent ways.
Ataloss how is your solar powered house coming along?
I haven’t sat in the dark , offline or without TV/Internet during grid failor for almost a decade . How about you seamutt ? The last two day grid failor we had half the neighbours charging their phones and using our wifi ,hot coffee etc. then when we got the 4ft dump of snow . The ones with machines came and dug us out and refused our attemp to pay them . Same happened in the next two snow falls . We’ve got some of the best neighbours we’ve ever had the pleasure of living by but then this isn’t PG.
Refreshing to read someone who is allowed to speak her own words for a change. Anything coming out of Zimmer or Harris’s mouths are talking points from the Conservative PMO in Ottawa. Anyone who promises to represent this city and region’s interests in Ottawa, rather than be the puppets, we currently have, taking orders and mindlessly goose stepping to central party interests, has my vote.
Hmmm… I wonder if our Dear Leader will allow Zimmer and Harris’s replacement to even attend any debates during the coming campaign, or will they be “bubble” boys again?

ataloss what are you talking about?
Greenies are free to say anything the want for one reason. They have no chance of winning…none…zero….zilch…notta. Worse yet they use up the limited resources the earth has to offer on signs and literature. I don’t think I will be seeing any wattle and baub billboards saying vote for Harry Pitts along the bypass this fall.
Sparrow ,who is Harry Pitts ? What about harpers millions being spent on a bizarre spring poll ? Be auk , bauk , bauk .
The Green Party is on a slow train to no where. They have no real skin in the game of politics. Best they can do is make all sorts of statements knowing full well they will not be elected. That’s why they support proportional representation, because that is the only way they will ever get a seat at the table.
It takes a lot of time and effort to build a party and get elected, if you don’t believe me ask the Federal NDP. The Greens want to be able to run in certain areas, where they have some support and then get involved through the back door. Hence Proportional representation.
Ataloss talks foolishness when he states that the Conservatives are afraid of the greens. These sort of statements are just **poppycock** and show how far removed he is from reality politics, or he is trying (without success) to get someone’s goat.
You’re at the laughing at you stage in your denial . Seat at the table ? Siting MPs . Seating MLAs . Equals seat at the table as it were . Yes it’s hard to believe that a grown man that can hide in a closet when he’s got a room full of human shields to hide behind , would also be afraid of LIZ the BS slayer MAY but he is . No debate , cause I don’t to be debait , if MAY is in . You know it’s true .
Ataloss:-“@ Karen . First they ignore you . Then they laugh at you . Then they fight you . Then you win . Mahatma Gandi . Looks like they are nervously laughing at you .”
————————————————————————-
The one of your own shoots you. Proving without a doubt the very thing you came to realise too late, that your followers weren’t ready for where you’d led them, just as your long time supposed opponent and oppressor told you. But in Karen’s case, and the rest of the Greens, on Election Day they won’t get past the “ignore” stage.
Do not insult the thousands of Greens that are already making a difference across the country . Liz was voted by her peers the hardest working MP . Her thoughts and deeds are for her much loved by her Canada and Earth .
@ataloss
Hairy Pits….all natural….just as mother earth intended….the reason you never ask for a show of hands at a greenies ladies meeting during the summer when they are all wearing halter tops:D
Let me know if you anything else explained in the most simple terms
@sparrow why would that matter to you ? I don’t think there is a greenies ladies meeting at all . So what is the point you are trying to make . Are you saying that ms. McDowell has Harry arm pits ? And if she did , why would that matter to you or I ? Or are you trying to say that the Scott’s are excessesively hairy lot . Well if that’s the case , up your kilt Lasse .
So ataloss human shields, is that how low you will go in your non respect for human kind? Would you shove people in front of yourself in a similar situation. By the way it was his security that shoved him out of sight so he didn’t become a target. But as violent as the left are they are probably sorry he didn’t get shot.
Wonder if you would shove your hubby lizzy out front?
Ataloss. Why is it ok for you to insult the millions of Conservatives across the Country, but you don’t like the thousands (yes thousands) of Greens to be insulted,.
Do you ever read what you write.
An insult is an insult.
I wouldn’t be able to shove Liz into the front she’s the leader . I have faced adversity and have not shrunk from danger . I would certainly not leave women , old people and a guy in a wheel chair on the frontline and hide in a closet with my body guards . And what do you mean by hubby ? Thats demeaning . Are you saying Liz is transgendered ? First time I’ve heard that one .
@palopu . Because I am partisan . I like fact based reality . The tenants of the Green Party are logical . It’s as far from the party of one as one can get . Liz can think circles around Trudeau , mulcair and Stevie at the same time . That’s why they want her out of the consortium debates and Stevie and his buddies set up BS debates . Be auk , bauk , bauk .
Ataloss. The number one priority in a time of crises is to ensure that the leader is safe. This is first and foremost, and is the duty of the protecting officers. Harper or any Prime Minister does what their security people tell them to do. If they didn’t then there would be little or no need for security.
I cannot for the life of me understand how you are unable to grasp the most fundamental principles of politics. Perhaps your understanding is based of American Western movies, or some such gibberish.
No, Palopu . It comes from being in charge of men , their health a safety , and equipment for over three decades . No one ever got hurt on my watch . I know full well what leadership involves . Do you ?
Just don’t let lizzy drink as all the logic falls by the wayside
The truth is; there were no protecting officers in the Conservative Causus room the day of the shooting. Here is a picture of the MPs barricading their Causus Room doors, in the picture we see the quadriplegic Conservative MP, among other MPs, but no security officers and no weapons.
http: //images.gmanews.tv/v3/webpics/v3/2014/10/640_2014_10_23_09_08_25.jpg
Of course Harper is not in the picture, at the time it was taken, he was cowering in a closet by himself.
“Stephen Harper says his “first responsibility” when a gunman broke into Parliament Hill’s Centre Block on Oct. 22 was to “extricate” HIMSELF from the danger so he could do his job as prime minister.” ~ Ottawa Citizen. His security team was not there to extricate Harper, Harper had to extricate “himself” from the danger… in other words the coward hid in that closet himself. Read it here:

“caucus” why it changed from a C to an S twice, is beyond me.
By the way, did anyone else notice that Harper refused to comment on wheather he was escorted to the closet? Yup, he could not comment on that question because if he said he was escorted to the closet, he would have been caught in a “lie”.
I did like the part where this gutless pansey called his “mommy”. Not his wife and kids… but his mommy!!! LOL… that says a lot.
Ataloss what watch was that, a Timex?
No seamutt . It was a Hamilton . Served me well . It’s retired too .
Ataloss, I suspect that if you had been present during the “gun fight at the OK Corral, you wouldn’t be allowed into any closet! After all, who wants to be cooped up in a closet with you when you have crapped in your depends?
Maybe you could have shared a closet with with Sophic as I suspect that she would have peed her pants!
Pretty easy to sit and point fingers, eh guys!!
Ataloss and Sophic, see what happens when you insult our Prime Minister!
Hope my insults didn’t hurt your feelings! Need a hug?
