More Progress Made Against Lytton Fire, Now 20% Contained
Lytton, B.C. – Crews have made more progress on the 1,270 hectare Cisco Road fire south of Lytton.
The Wildfire Management Branch says the blaze is now 20% contained and has seen no significant growth since yesterday.
In an effort to slow the spread of the fire, controlled burns are being planned for around the fire’s perimeter which the government says will “also protect values in the area and create a safer working environment for firefighters.”
The fire continues to generate a lot of smoke which is visible within the Merritt, Kamloops, and Vernon Fire Zones while the Evacuation Order issued by the Lytton First Nations remains in place.
The cause of the blaze, which was first discovered Thursday, is still under investigation.
There are approximately 130 people assigned to the fire in both fire suppression and support capacities.
