Organ Donations Way up in Quesnel

Tuesday, June 30, 2015 @ 3:42 AM

Quesnel, B.C. – More Quesnel residents than ever are registering as organ donors.

This since the April launch of a partnership between Service BC and BC Transplant which makes supporting organ donation easier by providing information on organ donation and registering organ-donation at all 61 Service BC locations across the province.

Since the launch, the number of local organ donor registrations has been double the previous five-year average.

In May alone, the number of registrations in Quesnel grew from 4 in 2014 to 28 this year.

But despite the increase in registrations, there is still work to be done.

For example, the provincial government says that while 95% of B.C. residents support organ donation, just 20% have registered their decision.

Victoria adds close to 500 British Columbians are currently waiting for a life-saving transplant with nearly 400 of those waiting for a kidney.

The Province also notes a single donor can save up to eight lives and that you can register now matter how old you are.

Canada’s oldest organ donor on record is 93.

Comments

I heard recently that organs are no longer harvested up here in the north.
I hope that it is false but I can not find anyone in the know?

Does anyone know for sure..do they or do they not come north to get organs?
