Ballantyne Moving to Edmonton
Prince George, B.C.- Choking back tears, Canada Winter Games CEO, Stu Ballantyne has announced he is leaving Prince George to move to Edmonton.Ballantyne has taken a position as Senior Vice President Operations with the Oilers Entertainment Group, parent company of the Edmonton Oilers hockey team.
Born in Edmonton, Ballantyne says this will be the second time he has had an opportunity to live there. He made the announcement to Mayor and Council at the end of the presentation of the Canada Winter Games financial report.
“I want to take the opportunity to say thank you, for everything you’ve done for me, myself , my family, I’m going to have a hard time leaving this community, but looking forward to new opportunities , and ‘on the road again’ as they say.”
It is rare for the gallery to erupt in applause, but Ballantyne received not only applause but a standing ovation as well.
Ballantyne leaves Thursday and starts his new duties on Monday.

Oh you mean the highly paid guy that was here for the winter games? Why would he stay? The jobs over.

perhaps the fact you haven’t heard of him speaks volumes to the job he did running the Canada Games…it was not about him. Stuart did a fantastic job as I’m sure he will do in his next endeavour. Best of luck to you Stu!
He did an awesome job managing the games. Some of you posters should get a life and better attitude.
‘Never heard of him..’
Then you’re an idiot.
Best of luck Stu !
Stu and Terry we are going to miss you. You did an amazing thing here for my chosen hometown and I personally can’t thank you enough for taking the gamble on us and moving your whole life here. The Games transformed (most of) our community, our self and national image. While I know Stu always emphasises the role the Green Jackets played, and its true, it wouldnt have happened without them, no team gets much of anywhere without a leader… I hope Edmonton appreciates what they are getting. Don’t be a stranger! Lyn was right tonight at Council, maybe you’ll be back again one day on another project.
…..and how much did we pay him for his job at the Winter Games? After all, it was just a job! He didn’t work for free!
Some will say that he was worth every penny! Ok, so exactly how many pennies did he get?
VOR…. Name calling? Really..mess your pull-up? Wake up on wrong side of crib….lol
P Val, that is the problem with some people on here,
they can’t compose an arguement to a comment so they resort to personal attacks.
I wish him the best! Stu did more positive work for Prince George in the past 5 years than anyone else has done in the last 50. Yes, the games were his job. Yes, he was probably well paid. Ultimately he delivered the games on budget and marketed Prince George in a positive light to more people than I could fathom. All the best Stu!
‘I wish him the best! Stu did more positive work for Prince George in the past 5 years than anyone else has done in the last 50. ‘ – and thus the problem with PG, the mind-numbing residents who have no idea what the local community does, and has done. It enrages me to see comments like this, people who have no idea what local families (The Martin’s, Novak’s, Doyles, Rustad’s etc) have done for PG , or the volunteers.
PG101, why so bitter? He came here to do a job and he did it very well. You sound like a lonely cranky old man…
@summit – you got put in your place by pg 101. You make some ridiculous claim that stu was a saviour to this community, and can’t take the criticism a comment like that would bring up? You sound like the naive one here…
@ PG 101 / Leroy. I’m not questioning that others have done things for the community. If you feel they need to be recognized, recognize them. Stu did great work; he deserves recognition even if it was his job. It does no one any good to put down another person’s contributions for the sake of being a jerk.
Oh oh..it’s Leroy Jenkins..lol
