Prince George, B.C. – Emergency personnel along with Prince George Search and Rescue are involved in a search of the Fraser River for a teenaged boy.

RCMP Corporal Craig Douglass says that shortly after 4pm today police received a call from a youth “who said he had been swimming with another kid at Fort George Park (Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park) and the other kid went missing.  So we are engaged in a search for a 15-year-old male.”

Cpl. Douglass says “we haven’t located anyone so it’s a bit sketchy as to when he might of gone missing so we’re trying to gather as much information as possible here, but right now we’re definitely engaged in a search.”

He says that search includes scouring the western river bank from the Hudson’s Bay slough south.  Prince George Search and Rescue spokesman Jeff Smedley says they have 15 people, “two jet boats, two paddle boats and a helicopter” involved in the search.  He was just about to get aboard a boat when contacted by 250 News and said he could not confirm the size of the area being searched at this time.

Here is hoping they find this young man alive somewhere along the river bank. Admittedly, at this time it does not look good, but one can always hope! Positive thoughts and wishes to this boy’s family and friends.

When around water, please wear life jackets.
