Folks who had been floating down Nechako,  are  picked up by  some  jet boaters – photo 250News

Prince George, B.C. – A group of  people who had taken a  leisurely  float  on the Nechako River this evening,  had  to  be plucked from the river by some jet boaters.

The late evening drift on the fast flowing Nechako ended with a call  for help as  the floaters  figured they weren’t going to  be able to  end the float at the Nechako Boat Launch on River Road as planned.  They were moving too  fast, and were too  far into the middle of the river to  make that  exit point.

A call for help was issued,  and some jet boaters  went to the rescue, plucking the  men and  women from their  inflatable crafts and bringing them to safety.

The incident  is  an example of  how fast the Nechako is running right now.  The river remains higher than usual for this time of year,  the current very strong.  Caution  should be exercised by  anyone  opting to  take a dip in an effort to cool  off  from the heat of the day.

As tempting as it is, they shouldn’t be on the river at all yet. The currents are still just too strong.
We’ve already lost one young lad to the Fraser, how many more before the water goes down?
People see a nice calm surface that belies the turbulence going on underneath. That is what will take a person down.

As far as I know, Ben never refused a request to search on both rivers, or pick up river floater. I remember him out in his boat, many times. Gently nudging us into the Fort George park. I suspect he was out watching. The big boat in the sky.

Thought it was an article about potatoes or something similar in trouble from the heat…

I had the same initial reaction as slinky – thought this was Jos van Hage’s column.

You can’t fix stupid.

‘ I suspect he was out watching. The big boat in the sky.’ – so , using your logic, he ignored the 15 yr old who tragically died? See how your cute little vision doesn’t really work?

PG101, really?! Have some respect for the deceased and those he left behind.

My family and I were up in the MacMillan Creeek park above the winery last night and saw this incident. While I am glad the rafters are okay and called for help, this could have been avoided. Be smart around water, especially rivers! Thanks to those rafters for helping me teach my child a lesson about river safety.

‘PG101, really?! Have some respect for the deceased and those he left behind. ‘ – technically PG101 is the one who showed respect, by pointing out the ignorance in the post suggesting some mythical god saved some lives on the river, but ignored others. You really can’t spot the difference? Frightening.

Pointing out the hypocrisy in someone’s post, and you take offense to it? PG101 said ‘the 15 yr old who tragically died’ which was clearly giving respect to the deceased. JLS is the one who lacks respect, by neglecting the poor kid who just perished on the river. Is this really that hard to decipher?

Leroyjenkins, the post was not about the 15 yr old who is missing. It was about the rafters. Pointing out that one “can’t spot the difference”, while you can’t read is also “frightening”.

@Leroyjenkins I do not believe anyone but you posted about a mythical god.
