Did you know that of the more than 600 companies now listed as barred from doing business with the World Bank over corruption, 117 are Canadian, the most of any other country? Yup it true, After Canada’s 117 listed companies, the U.S. is in second place, with 46 listed. That’s followed by Indonesia (43 firms) and Britain (40 firms).

Though the RCMP now has 35 active investigations of foreign corrupt practices by Canadian companies or their employees, Transparency International remains unimpressed. In its recent annual report, TI placed Canada in its “limited enforcement” category — second to last on its four-part scale — for enforcing rules against bribery by multinational corporations.

On October 19th let’s take our Canada back!

So! should Lynyrd Skynyrd be allowed to continue to perform, displaying the confederate flag!

Seen a couple of lower mainlanders be total retards yesterday afternoon there happened to be a moose on the side of the road just north of city limits headed to Dawson creek. They were taking turns taking their picture in front of the moose that was maybe 30 feet away from them with their backs to the moose.

Myself and another driver chewed out this couple after we managed to make the moose go away and let them know they were in line for a Darwin Award with that stunt. Sadly because more and more people are growing up in urban centres they do not have an understanding or appreciation for wildlife and truly do not understand the danger that they put themselves in with stunts like these.

I’ve seen in Jasper and Banff tourists put children on the backs of elk during rutting season in the townships, seen them hand feed black bears, stand within 50 feet of a full grown grizzly and sit in the middle of goat herds while petting them. It has gotten worse over the years because animals are more often than not being portrayed as cute and cuddly and harmless.

Sadly because more and more people are growing up in urban centres they do not have an understanding or appreciation for wildlife and truly do not understand the danger that they put themselves in with stunts like these.

You mean like those rednecks on that jet boating trip in northern BC captured on iYouTube who thought it would be a good idea to ride a moose while it was swimming? I agree, they looked like they were just visiting from Robson Street.

Sophic Sage It would be nice to view that list.I wonder if HART GUY made the list. JUST sayin that’s all? Maybe he made the other list employer of the month, highly doubtful.

After all the hoopla about aircraft patrolled highways that has been blurbed over the years, I wonder why nothing more has been said about it? The lines are painted on they highways for them but it seems that that’s where it ends.
No air patrols. I wonder why? Does it tie up too many resources, or are they not catching enough offenders or what?
They sure could have been using them this last week on the north highway as well as the west, where I travelled.
I just don’t think the highways are patrolled enough. Especially now when there is construction going on. Of course construction always creates long lines of traffic behind slower moving vehicles and some of the antics from very impatient drivers puts a large number of people at risk.
It would be nice to see the odd patrol car out there just for a reminder to people to take it easy.

Dearth, not as bad as the Americans, putting honey on their child so it can attract the bear over so they can take pictures.

NMG< Yeah, I saw that video about the rednecks.

The difference is, the Redneck is well aware of the risk and danger. The idiots on the highway don't.

The World Bank.

That’s hilarious. The most corrupt organization in the world has a banned corruption list!

I miss Ben and his opinions. Used to love those articles.

Sage, why don’t you move I am sure north Korea would take you. Not sure if they have plugins for your electric car.

He had a special no nonsense investigative gift that made some officials tremble in their shoes and rather have a few root canals than face him across the table in a plain truthful discussion!

Shame shame shame on the po po… no faith..No trust,,.

What an awesome concert this Wednesday! Good job to the promoters and what a honor to host a world class rock band. Thanks for coming Journey!

I’m not aware of evidence that the World Bank is particularly corrupt. Don’t confuse it with FIFA. Which isn’t to say that it doesn’t do some foolish things, just not because it is bribed to do so.

I have noticed that “I seen” has crept into the vernacular rather unashamedly. There are other grammatical errors that proliferate in every day discourse, but I find this one particularly galling.

I suppose I am just a crusty old man resistant to the natural evolution of language.

cougs79 – excellent point re: World Bank!

It would be interesting to see the list of corrupt Canadian companies. Then is would be interesting to see who actually owns the companies. Many so called Canadian Companies are registered in Canada, however they are owned by foreign Countries.

So lets not get confused by a Canadian Co., and a company registered in Canada.

Anyone else getting sick of the slam campaign against Trudeau? I just hate that type of politics.. We are turning American with our way of campaigning and it sucks. I am sure we are about to get inundated with anti Harper and Muclair adds. Tell me what you will do for me if I vote for you and keep the promises. That’s all I want.

“So! should Lynyrd Skynyrd be allowed to continue to perform, displaying the confederate flag!” .. or better still, why should we up here care?

“there happened to be a moose on the side of the road just north of city limits headed to Dawson creek” .. how do you know where the moose was headed?

Bumped and rattled down 1st ave and 15th ave the other day. Havent seen much street paving crews out this summer. Intersections that have been redone are not even lasting 2 years anymore before they are full of patches and holes.

I have been a “customer” of the prince george hospital for four months this spring and was amazed that I could not find one bathroom in the entire hospital where the fan worked. Is this not a health issue as well as poor pride in our hospital? A couple of years ago, a show was on tv called “How well does your hospital measure up?” No one mentioned the issue with the fans at UHNBC! When speaking to staff they say sarcastically “What are you saying? Something doesn’t work at this hospital?” The maintenance staff are always on coffee according to some staff and the cost of fans is relatively low when you consider they would probably be buying close to 40 or 50 at once. Bathroom fans wear out in a few years in the average home so understandably they wouldn’t endure too many years in a public washroom which gets turned on and off constantly. I have approached my MLA Shirley Bond but she is shielded from my complaints by a wall of underlings who filter out such people (and concerns) as me. I don’t expect much support in this matter but it should be noted that when legitimate concerns are brought to the attention of “people in authority” that unless there is an opportunity to reap media attention on a grand enough scale, it won’t get solved. Guess this issue isn’t big enough to warrant MLA attention.

Hey Cutbanks, I seen yer don’t like are language. Go french! LOL

Ice, thanks for thinking of me! Sorry to disappoint you, but my business is not on the list! No complaints with the Better Business Bureau either! Not on CRA’s radar either as my taxes are always current! No issues with any regulatory and licencing bodies! Recently acquired more business! It’s been a pretty successful year so far, all is good, but thanks for being concerned!

How about you Ice? Things good on your job front? Still taking orders from someone else every day? Wishing that you had the courage to go out on your own and make something of yourself? Good luck with that! Some people lead, and some just follow!!

Is everyone enjoying little Stevie plunders devaluation of our dollar and our on going recession . Five dollar head of lettuce coming to a store near you . We are all going to pay a huge premium because of Stevie . We could call it the Stevie ideology premium . The dollar just minutes ago almost hit the 76 cents . Anyone ever wonder why Canadian oil is priced in Canadian dollars and Norwegian oil is priced in world prices ? I would say but most of you can’t handle it . It’s not because we are ruled by patriotic Canadians . Poor Canada , getting poorer .

Here comes something out of the left wing camp.

I think there are a lot of ignorant campers out there, that their is entitlement into the parks, forestry campsites, into the bush, who feels that they can do what ever they want, inclusive of excessive damage to our environment. This does not limit them to uncare use of campfires, dumping garbage, ATV use wrecking vegetation for momentary thrill, illegal fishing and hunting.

BC is about camping and enjoying the weekend. This needs to be preserved for generations. If your not going to eat the fish, release it. If you hunt, eat the meat. Take your rubbish out with you. You don’t need a camp fire with 5 ft high flames. You don’t need to dump your waste sewer in the bush. Going camping should be a privilege, not an excuse to destroy things for momentary thrills.

I think all campers, fishermen, hunters, and users of BC outdoors should be educated, and have to pay an annual permit to allow for this. A one stop permit, and you pay for each activity. It should be more than just a money grab for the government, it should be about educating the people going into the BC Outdoors.

NMG< Yeah, I saw that video about the rednecks.

======================

So that makes the rednecks worse because they are intentionly putting themselves and the animal in danger because they know better. The idiots on the highway are just ignorant. Sounds about right, LOL :)

“How about you Ice? Things good on your job front? Still taking orders from someone else every day? Wishing that you had the courage to go out on your own and make something of yourself? Good luck with that! Some people lead, and some just follow!!”

Some us want to follow.. if we didnt there wouldnt be any workers.. so you should be thanking us Hart Guy… also the nice thing about being a follower is.. at the end of the day my concern with my job is done.. I get no calls at home.. take holidays and not one thought of work..etc.. make a 6 figure wage and life is pretty good :)

Dearth says..

“I’ve seen in Jasper and Banff tourists put children on the backs of elk during rutting season in the townships, seen them hand feed black bears, stand within 50 feet of a full grown grizzly and sit in the middle of goat herds while petting them. I have seen lots of bad tourist behavior with animals as well but what a pile of crap quote.

P Val, so I’m guessing that you are thankful that some person or some group of people took the initiative to put their money at risk to start a business and created jobs, in your case a 6 figure wage!

On behalf of all the people that take the risks, you’re welcome!

And business people should be happy that people are willing to work for them in order to turn that risk into reward. See, it is a symbiotic relationship :)

dow7501 just because you have never heard of it, seen it reported on TV or or seen it in person does not mean it has not happened and all I have stated has happened because I have posted I have seen it in person and have on more than one occasion stepped in with others to save people from their own stupidity.

Last summer some friends and I made a appointment with Dick Harris half hour before our meeting his office phoned and said he was not going to be there. Shirley Bond never responds so Western 3 you are not the only one that gets ignored . I think it has a lot to do with the problems and if they want to deal with them. It also goes for our City Council. Albert Koehler was the only one to question the name change of our Park ,thats not a big deal but still questions should have been asked and it should not have been pushed through so fast, it makes one wonder what is next.

P Val:”Anyone else getting sick of the slam campaign against Trudeau? I just hate that type of politics..”

Yes, I am disgusted as well! The Harper Americanization of Canada has been going on for far too many years. These Harper (and associate supporters) US style attack ads are the lowest kind of gutter politics. Go figure!

The new Alberta bitumen spill of 5 miilion liters happened with a one year young pipeline! What are these pipelines made of? Chopped liver? Scary! And that is over flat ground!

Hart guy.. I work for a world wide company who took no risk in their investment.. As for you thinking you are anything like them you are wrong…they like their employees.. You seem to think of employees as below you, you have proven it again and again with your comments.. So you are not welcome.. But they are.

P Val, you are wrong, there is always a risk in an investment, sometime more, sometimes less, but there is always a risk!

As far as me and the staff the supports me, you have absolutely no idea! I am very well supported by the group of people that work on my behalf. They are well aware of my appreciation for the work that they do! They have earned my respect and I have earned theirs! We get along just fine, thank you very much!

P Val, I’m glad that you are content to follow! I’m glad that for you, at the end of your day, your concern with your job is done. I’m glad that you get no calls at home, take holidays with not one thought of work..etc.. make a 6 figure wage and as you say, life is pretty good :)

I’m glad to hear all of that!

I suspect and would hope that you will never ever, ever again condemn or complain about anybody that wants more, works harder, achieves more, maybe becomes successful and perhaps even becomes one of the dreaded one-percenters! Especially if they create some employment and provide some 6 figure wages along the way, right?

Hart guy, you failed to ask what I did to be able to get such a job.. You think I just walked into it with no schooling or training.. How foolish of you.. Open your eyes and try to see both sides of the situation, rather than just from your side.

Another bonus for having your own business is that you only need to work 1/2 days. And being the boss you get to pick which 12 hours you work.

P Val, I know a really rich guy that pays me a 6 digit figure, and all I have to do is his daughter. Life is good. ;)

Why do I think hart guy is a lousy boss/business owner.. He hates unions..so that usually means he is doing something that wouldn’t be acceptable in a union shop..there is a shock..lol. Like pay a fair wage, regular working hours etc.. Sweat shop rings a bell…..probably a fan of TFWs as well.

This site has turned into a gong show of children insulting one another. You people should be ashamed of yourselves. Immature childish personal attacks from a few regulars here are allowed to stand and continue on a regular basis. Are you a bunch of crack heads or what? Unbelievable!

P Val, September will mark 34 years in business for myself! Business is good and business continues to grow!

In spite of your negativity towards me and my opinions, 34 years in business suggests that I might be doing something right!

Not every business has to be unionized to do something right!!

How about that Canada Cartage, (known as Canada Carnage in trucking circles) driver that rear ended a stopped empty logging truck that was turning left into the Coop in Vanderhoof last night. The Carnage driver didn’t even touch his brakes when he hit the poor logger at 70 Kmh. Poor guy had to be cut from the cab of his logging truck with the jaws of life. Too bad the log truck wasn’t loaded when Carnage rear ended him.

If you see a Canada Carnage truck on the hwy near you, you best clear a path. This company doesn’t respond to complaints against their drivers from anyone. They have a terrible safety record and will hire anyone with a class one licence. They pass on double solid lines and run others out of road at the end of passing lanes. They run over pedestrians and pass sand/salt trucks going down the Mud River hill in winter coming to a stop sideways across the bridge at the bottom closing the hwy for hours. Be afraid, be very afraid.

Agreed Dumbfounded, and Hart Guy seems to relish it. I have noted that most of Hart Guy’s comments are not about a particular subject at hand, but are comments on other people’s comments. For the most part I ignore him, but when the subject of this Friday Free For All becomes about him and is alleged business, that when I feel like throwing up in my mouth a bit.

Further to my first comment on this Friday Free For All, and just to underscore the scale of the problem, Canada is approximately 100 times smaller than the US both in population size and in the number of businesses. Imagine that a country with 100 times more businesses has 46 businesses banned from doing business with the World Bank, yet Canada, a country with 100 times less businesses, has 117 businesses band from doing business with the World Bank.

This is what happens when we let a Business and Corporate run Harper Government run our country. On October 19th, let’s heave Steve.

Quite frankly, I think both Hart Guy and P Val are both FoS. On the internet, it’s all puppy dogs and rainbows if you want it to be. You can be successful in business, and you can be paid six figures working for a multi-national. We’re all just supposed to take their word, while they hide in the shroud of anonymity,

Ya right.

If that’s the case, then I’m the guy that came up with the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Engine that Toyota is releasing in the Mirai later in 2015. I’m going to make millions. Why would you think otherwise?

Sophic it’s a good observation but by population it’s 10 times We’re 34 million they’re 308

Sophic, if you weren’t such a one sided troll, people might engage you on a intellectual level. But your a paid troll so throw up in your mouth.

Why would I not believe you brogecko ? Or should I say , Bob , Bob Grove ? You invented the bloody thing in way back in 1839 and it’s still technology just around the corner . Are you still in the law business ? I wanna believe you but …..

Thanks for the catch ski51, yes it is only 10 times the population not 100… my bad.

Seems that the same handful of regulars are upset that I am exposing this Harper Government’s dirty laundry. Get used to it, I have enough on him and his pathetic government to post every Friday on here for a year, not just until October 19th.

It must make some Harper’s pets uncomfortable reading the facts and truths about how ugly, and mean spirited, Canada has become internationally under this Harper government. Murder, torture, gang rapes, and now a growing list of corruption charges… sounds Conservative right to me!

Sage why are you back in 2013?

Did you know of those 117 Canadian companies barred from bidding on World Bank projects in 2013, all but 2 are SNC Lavalin? Of course you knew but it doesn’t sound so impressive with 3 companies barred from bidding… you also know they are the same guys hired to helped clean up the Mt Polley spill.

In 2013, 117 companies registered in Canada have been banned from doing business with the World Bank because of their corruption practices. This is a fact and a truth, if it was a lie I would own up to it, and not act like a Conservative by saying I “misspoke”. I pride myself in having higher standards than Conservatives, and I certainly do not resort to name calling like some of the one’s on here do!

Harper was rge first g8 leader to call out Putin over Chrimea while the Euro zone was doing their best Chamberland. Harper called Kyoto the farce that it was. Harper sent planes to fight ISIS. Canada for the first time in my adult life is doing not talking. That surely pisses off the progressives who liked it when we wore blue helmets and watched massacres. Most Canadian’s are good with our new found balls.

This is what the World Bank writes about Canada:

Canada serves as a global model for stability, sustainable prosperity, and economic inclusion, and advances these ideals through its strong and longstanding partnership with the World Bank Group. Since 1945, Canada and the World Bank Group have worked together, with other member governments, to finance projects, design policies, and deliver programs to end poverty and create a world based on the principles of sustainable development.

The World Bank Group benefits from having among its leading members a country that has long been a strong proponent of multilateralism. Enshrining that concept as the foundation of the international order has been a hallmark of Canada’s foreign policy since the end of World War II.
—————————————

In the list, there are 51 occurrences of SNC-LAVALIN one of the biggest engineering firms in the world. Each listing is for a separate address with a non-compliance of the World Bank auditors with respect to Consulting Guidelines 1.22(a)(i)-(ii); Proc. Guidelines 1.15(a)(i)-(ii). Obviously the one firm uses the same legal documents for their consulting and procurement guideline.

I count a total of 113 separate entries, 51 for one firm, 7 double occurrences for one firm and 1 triple occurrence for one firm for similar reasons as SNC-Lavalin. That means there are 54 firms. I have not checked the USA or any other country. The would likely have a few entries which occur more than once as well, but obviously not as many as Canada has for just one firm.

SNC-Lavalin is one of very few engineering firms in the world which can build major infrastructure projects virtually anywhere in the world with its own resources to INVEST in a project, design it, build it, and even operate it. They likely do not need the World Bank to approve a loan for them.

They are free to do sole bidding, to offer bonuses for jobs done more quickly, to offer a subsequent job on the next project if the subcontractor or supplier performs well, all such managing procedures could be considered by the World Bank as corrupt practices. It is an accusation made but not taken to court.

The Bank is a lending agency and they can call the shots for access to their money.

SNC-Lavelin has been in operation since 1911, long before the World Bank, a US creation, was thought of. They get the job done and do as effectively as possible. Often, open bidding for everything is simply not the best way to do things.

Could yje also be the?
