Prince George, B.C. – The College of New Caledonia is getting just over $1.5 million dollars from the Province to invest in new trades training equipment.
CNC will use the funding to buy equipment such as welding tools, a solar array recorder system and a diesel engine.
“Thanks to this investment, students who attend CNC will have access to up-to-date equipment, which will greatly enhance their leaning outcomes,” says Frank Rossi, dean of trades and technology at CNC. “The funds will be used to purchase a range of equipment which will benefit a number of our programs including welding, power engineering, professional chef and more.”
With the expectation of a high demand for trades people in the years to come, MLA Shirley Bond says it’s critical B.C. workers have the right skills to meet the demand ““New equipment for CNC will give our students an advantage, helping them prepare for high-paying, long-term, family-supporting jobs.”
With many of the in-demand jobs trades related, MLA Mike Morris says the funding will “Help ensure that students have access to industry-standard equipment that meets industry requirements.”
Earlier this year, government announced $375,028 to purchase new tools and equipment at CNC. In addition, $474,079 in funding since 2014 has been provided to create 120 additional seats at CNC, helping to reduce wait lists in high-demand trades programs.

Yet they’ve just let both of their counsellors go because “there’s no money”. What a crock!
CNC should have no problem with money
I know some Chinese students going to CNC, the amount they have to pay for 1 or 2 classes a semester is insane and there’s so many Chinese students in Prince George now, $5,000 for 2 classes lol and its English or transfer type classes.
A solar array recorder system . Better later than never , I guess . Solar is only the fastest growing field of new energy world wide . Just not here . Greatly enhance “leaning ” outcomes ? I know you mean ,learning but some just wouldn’t get it .
Krusty, you are not supposed to remember this gov destroying our education system. It’s all about the crumbs they toss out..just look for bond in a picture..it’s means the liberals are buying more votes
Agree with all the comments made so far. Seems the trades are the be all and end all of this government, forget that we have a doctor and nursing shortage, oops they would be paid with public funding so ideologically that doesn’t fit.
I know of a number of people who took and completed welding courses and their apprenticeships, who can’t find work… IMO this government is all talk and no action.
They can’t find work because we are in recession sage . The only ones that don’t know it are the people in power . Actually I believe they know it but they’re just keeping up the charade of good stewardship . Their answer is to tank the Canadian dollar by lowering interest rates in the hopes of us bailing them out with another credit binge . They are completely bankrupt of ideas and unwilling to listen to anyone . He’ll have his inflation one way or the other . I hope everyone remembers what they’ve done to our grocery bills this last two years and where it’s going to go come next election . There is lots of jobs in the electrical engineering and electronics fields in the states . The solar folks can’t get enough people trained fast enough to meet demand .
Completely agree Ataloss; pipe dreams and rainbows just like the airport expansion, after 14 years of promises of an economic boom, we get nothing but the sound of crickets.
I wonder if the useful idiots who voted for the Christy Clark government will believe the lies again in three years? Imagine that, the whole world is moving towards alternative energy sources and we are investing in a sunset fossil fuel industry, what a joke! By the time we are ready to ship LNG, world demand will be at an all time low. Like Harper did with the Oil Industry, Christy is putting all of BC’s eggs in the LNG basket, and like Harper, Christy will fail us miserably.
