Liberals Pledge to Reopen Veterans Office

Prince George, B.C. – Would a federal Liberal government reopen the Veterans Affairs office in Prince George?

250 News posed that question to the party’s National Defence critc, Vancouver Quadra MP Joyce Murray, while at a party fundraiser in Prince George last night.20150727_182356-1

“We’ve committed to reopening the offices, we’ve committed to taking seriously the duty to care for our veterans,” she said. “In Ottawa we don’t believe that duty to care is being upheld by the current government.”

She added service at Service Canada outlets in affected communities hasn’t been cutting it.

“I’ve been hearing that veterans are not getting specific service by people that are knowledgeable of veterans affairs at Service Canada,”said Murray. “So I don’t believe specific personnel are available that are dedicated to veterans needs and so then it becomes am empty offer.”

The Veterans Affairs Office in Prince George was closed by the Conservative government in 2013 while its services were transferred to the Service Canada outlet downtown.

Murray’s two day visit to the city wraps up today. Along with the fundraiser, she’s also had lunch with local veterans, visited UNBC, and met with various community groups.

yep an easy promise to make, from that position.

Yes, get ready for many more promises from many more people in many more ridings.

I wonder if anyone has ever followed up the promises made at election time to see how many of the successful candidates made promises which were carried out by their party, promises which individual MPs have very little control over.

“We’ve committed to reopening the offices, we’ve committed to taking seriously the duty to care for our veterans,” she said. “In Ottawa we don’t believe that duty to care is being upheld by the current government.”

That’s not the same as saying yes. I’m committed to all sorts of things but it doesn’t always mean I can carry through on my commitments.

Holy Cow! You folks, your comments are totally full of common sense and good judgement, well done!
