WIDC Park Update

Prince George, B.C. – The plans for the Wood Innovation and Design Centre Park may be changed and construction is delayed until next spring.
Staff first presented a design to Council in April of this year, and held an open house to get public feedback. Those who attended the open house (33) expressed concerns about security and safety in the park which will also be next door to a new transit exchange area.
In a report to Council, staff note that “In consideration of the time needed to complete the BC Hydro beautification, to further involve stakeholders in the design process, for review of the transit exchange impacts, for incorporating design modifications to accommodate public/community response and then to construct the project works” staff decided not to proceed with construction until the spring of 2016.
The extra time will make sure the final design can be put before the public to see the changes and collect their comments.
The project has a budget of $750 thousand dollars with funds coming from provincial grants ($330 thousand), capital expenditure reserve ($170 thousand) and development cost charges for parkland ($250 thousand). The City has also forwarded a request to BC Transit for funding assistance of the proposed downtown transit exchange that is proposed for construction next to WIDC Park. The project will be evaluated by BC Transit to outline the costs for both the Province and the City of Prince George, and if approved could then move to implementation.

that one is a bit clearer
Lets hope they don’t let the same people who designed that butt ugly WIDC have input on the park. Mike Brady called, he wants his design back.
You got that right Grizz. I don’t know how much the city has spent on this potential disaster so far, but it is lots of bucks.
What I do know is they never look outside the box at our city hall.
One email to Imperial Parking proposing a long term lease would get results big time at no cost to us.
Make some space for mobile lunch trucks but no trees or god awful rock gardens.
The problem with the WIDC,PG is they ran out of siding, so the design team from the North Korean penal system thought just leaving the blank spaces in tarpaper would add some class to it.
What the hell!!! Do people lose brain cells once they get elected? We are going to spend $750,000 on a park downtown that we will be tearing up in less than 2 years because it has become a “let’s make a drug deal” destination park. Of course, council will justify this money by saying that they are getting it from other levels of government and so most of it is not coming out of our city taxes. We have all kinds of parks in the city that are run down, grass growing out of the concrete on most city meridians, entrances to the city that look like we don’t care and infrastructure deficits that we can’t pay for. Then again what do I know I am just a taxpayer.
Whoa, Summit! No need to shout!
