Long Weekend Traffic Enforcement Nets Plenty of Action

Thursday, August 6, 2015 @ 12:30 PM

Prince George, B.C.- Heading into the long weekend drivers were warned there would be plenty of police  on the highways  covered  by North District RCMP.  Some people just  didn’t listen.

North District Inspector Martin Dey  says  more than 400 tickets or charges were laid over the course of the long weekend, including  12  cases of  impaired driving which involved  either  immediate roadside prohibitions, or a criminal charge.

A further 17 drivers  were  caught  for excessive speeding,  which  means their vehicles were  impounded for at least 7 days.

There was one fatal  crash on the long weekend,  that was the one which  resulted in the closure of  highway 97 and 39 at the Mackenzie Junction  early Saturday morning.  Inspector Dey  says other than that  tragic incident,  there were no  other crashes  that resulted in  serious injuries.

“We continue with the  random road side checks ” says Inspector Dey, “and the extra enforcement on the long weekends  is something we’ve been doing for about 4 years.  You can expect  we will be out in force again on the long weekend in September.”

Good work. I especially like it that they nailed some excessive speeders. There is absolutely no excuse for excessive speeding.

I hate to say I am glad to see this happening,
but because there are so many of these type of drivers out there,
and obviously there are out there because every weekend there seems to be more and more getting caught
I am glad to see them being caught…I doubt ,anytime in the near future, there will not be any shortage of them, at least not from what I have been seeing….

I am sure though that is someone else’s fault,
not their own fault,
at least not in their minds…

I think there needs to be dedicated RCMP traffic enforcement. They have the concept of “duty cars”, but they are often pulled away for “serious” matters. I guess it boils down to what causes the most harm in society. Poor drivers who maim and kill, or grow ups and drug related crime.

actually ski they do have a dedicated unit at Ospika Blvd. office that does nothing but traffic….

Why aren’t they out on our hwy’s at night? That’s when all the dangerous drivers are out there.

Hwy 16 West with limited passing lanes is always a potentially dangerous road. WHY? people in motorhomes that do well below the posted limit so they can get 10 mpg instead of 7mpg, another is tractor trailer units that bunch up nose to tail and when they get to a passing lane , as often as not, one unit will pull out and pass and use the entire 2.8km passing lane to gain sfa or just to prove he has 1 more horse power and a shorter penis than the other ‘professional’ driver.
These two items cause allot of havoc between PG and V-hoof.

17 vehicles impounded for excessive speed. How about 17 more impounds for texting? Has a nice ring to it….. Hope it comes.

Nice to see they caught that many but it doesn’t say much for peoples’ ability to control themselves, does it?
Too bad.

No kidding Furbink – I was in a line of 8 cars up mud river hill last week while a tan chip truck took the whole passing lane to get arounf a yellow one. At the lights at the top of college heights they were still nose to tail, just in the opposite order. Idiots.

The police could get that many in 1 hour on North Kelly. And all the jacked up trucks with no mufflers as a bonus. Fri. & Sat evenings may only take ahalf an hour.

Guys…if you observe truckers acting like idiots on the roads then get the unit number and make a phone call to the company. Trucks are not allowed to impede the flow of traffic and their company safety officers take moving violations quite seriously.

Take the time and make a phone call. It will go a long ways to getting these yahoos off the roads.
