250 Takes Your Pulse on the Federal Election
The writ has been dropped, the first Leaders debate is behind us, and the named candidates are off and running while others are still waiting to be named as the one to carry their party’s colours in the race.
250News has set up a special Election 2015 tab on our website ( check the menu at the top right of your standard website screen). All election stories will appear on the main page, and on the Election 2015 page.
We have also instituted a weekly poll, to gauge who is picking up, or losing momentum in this race.
Each Monday, a poll will appear on the site, you can select the answer which best aligns with your feelings, and the following Monday we will present the results of that poll, and present a new one.
We encourage you to let us know if there are other ways we can engage residents in the 250 during this election period. Send me an email:
talk@250news.com with your comments or suggestions.

okay, where is the poll?
Here’s a clue bcracer: the answer is in the article.
Clicked on Election 2015. Where is the poll?
I don’t believe there is a party that deserves my vote at this time. We should all wait for their comprehensive platforms to be disclosed before committing to one party/candidate. There is no hurry with such a long time to the election. Lots can transpire in the meantime.
So according to the story “Each Monday, a poll will appear on the site, you can select the answer which best aligns with your feelings, and the following Monday we will present the results of that poll, and present a new one.” ….. so it’s Monday and I do not see any poll anywhere & in getting here I clicked the Election 2015 Tab; so I ask, “where is the poll”?
The leadership vote on this site is bogus . One can vote as often as one likes . I tested it by voting twice . It has as much credibility as the Kraft hockey vile bs .
Spell check and auto fill changed hockeyville to hockey vile . I did see it but it seemed more apt .

It;s this site’s fault that people have no integrity and will vote more then once?
I did not say that it’s the fault of 250 . I just admitted that I voted twice as a test . I just wanted everyone to know that the vote itself has no credibility as do the reformacons that will be spending their time logging in and out all day . On a brighter note for twofivezero their numbers of views will be up dramatically there by increasing revenue. I voted twice for Liz . I won’t be voting again .
Ataloss posted “Spell check and auto fill changed hockeyville to hockey vile . I did see it but it seemed more apt.”
Gee Ataloss, you seem to hate a lot of this, but now you hate hockey too??
To everyone else, have a great Monday!
how about none of the above . don’t care for any of them . will wait to see who I like in my riding and they will get my vote . hopefully whoever becomes PM only has a minority gov . sad days for Canada in my opinion .
No hart guy . What I don’t like is polls that can be overwhelmed by boiler room voting to give the impression of a skewed reallity . Like Kraft foods hockeyville poll which is bogus . As is the 250 poll . I don’t care about hockey either way . I don’t like or dislike it .
250 looks at where it was sent from and deletes duplicate votes..or however much the same address comes up.. Sooo you can vote all you want but only one vote will count
Well ss that statement would have some weight to it , if it came from Elaine but it has not . So it still means absolutely nothing .
Elizabeth May has 41 votes as of now, so ataloss has voted a lot more than twice :P
I don’t know where else to ask about this so I’m hoping someone here can tell me:
Are candidates allowed to advertise (via signage) in ridings that are not their own? There are an awful lot of Doherty signs along the eastern side of 97, and unless I’m mistaken isn’t that PG-Peace?
Sieg.. Doherty is like all cons..they don’t care about rules or the law.
thanks for thinking of my well being lbear, but there is no poll!
Someone just voted for Harper 40 times in a row. Hilarious.
All this crap about balanced budgets makes me sick, how in hell can you call a balanced budget when you increase the amount of over all debt. Just keep borrowing then pat yourself on the back for job well done. Spend what you have not what you can borrow in my view is a true balanced budget. When you look at all the waste in Government spending its clear they have more than needed to address the needs of this Country.
Steph100. According to socredible it’s okay to lie about balanced budgets because other parties have.. Typical con way of thinking but works for the small minded.
steph100 – there’s two kinds of federal debt, one is good debt, the other not so good debt.
Good debt is when the government spends billions on new roads, hospitals, bridges etc. This kind of spending increases the overall debt, but it’s offset by an increase in overall assets that will benefit future generations – who will along with us, in theory repay the debt.
Not so good debt, is when the government borrows to fund current social programs. There is no offsetting asset to that debt. The money is spent now, a future generation repays it, with no benefit.
So, think of your family. This year you’re renting a house. You take in say 60,000 a year, and spend 59,000 a year, so you have a 1,000.00 surplus – and no debt.
Next year, you borrow $300,000 for a new house – so now your debt has increased by 300,000 – but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but you also report a 299,000 deficit.
On the flip side, if the next year you took in 60,000, but spent 90,000 which included several trips to Mexico, your debt increases 30,000, and it’s not such a good thing, and you have a $30,000 deficit.
As for our federal debt – it would be nice if they would report our assets as well, so we can know if we just bought a new house, or took a holiday.
Steph100, the other thing to remember, especially on a national level, is that debt & balancing the budget are 2 completely separate things. Like Ski51 pointed out, if you have a $300,000 mortgage, your total bill obligations are 35,000/ year but you take home $50,000. You have balanced your budget with a $15,000 surplus but you still have debt. The trick is, at any political level, to get the truth of what the true numbers really are.
That’s the kicker detoe – getting the truth – from any of them. I mean, Mulcair knows a good chunk of the increasing debt relates to asset acquisition, so does Trudeau, but instead of saying the truth, they just throw out a scary number because they think it’s more important to get elected – just like Harper in his attack ads doesn’t address anything tangible. The attack ad on Trudeau about Justin saying the budget will balance itself – that’s actually true, if you include the whole picture. If an economy grows, and a government doesn’t increase it’s expenditures at the rate of economic growth, the budget will balance itself – hence his point – we need to grow the economy. Does Harper point that out – no.
My problem is they’re all a bunch of liars saying whatever they have to say to make the other guy look bad and them look good, even though all of them are spreading disinformation. And they scare people with it.
Detoe44, get that, however if you continue to increase the mortgage by borrowing there comes a point were your going into bankruptcy or find lenders charge more interest which can also cause even more pain. although borrowing for Governments low today, it seems we are treated like a bottomless pit for money and that has to change…
P Val, re: your comment “Doherty is like all cons..they don’t care about rules or the law.”
Really P Val? Are you suggesting that Doherty is like all “convicts”, or did you mean something else?
Actually HG, P Val might have a point. On Doherty’s website it says he has worked for the Canada Winter Games from 2011-present. Now that is not telling the truth, is it ?
Convicts- conservatives.. Not a big difference hart dude.
P Val, that’s quite the broad brush that you are using! Of course the NDP, the Liberals and the Greens are pure as the driven snow, right??
I’m a Conservative and so are many, many of my friends and business associates. None of us are convicts! We follow rules and regulations and the law!
What makes you such a self-righteous and holier-than-thou individual that you feel qualified to make such a broad categorization of such a large segment of the population?
While the mainstream media tends to ignore the transgressions of the “left”, you can be sure that they do exist! Adrian Dix didn’t seem to have an moral issues with falsifying memos for Glen Clarke! The late Jack Layton and his wife had no problem living in subsidized housing while the real poor lived on the street! And so on and so on and so on!
Let’s not forget about the Liberal’s sponsorship scandal, “AdScam”!
How about “NDP spending scandal could hurt Mulcair’s credibility”.
Remove the spaces in www:

P Val has now been caught with her hand in the proverbial cookie jar.
Will she respond with more Harper Carping, or will she review the above mentioned scandals and then make a more balanced post. Hmmmmmm.
PVal wrote:_”Steph100. According to socredible it’s okay to lie about balanced budgets because other parties have.. Typical con way of thinking but works for the small minded.”

PVal, I think the way Steph100 views a ‘balanced Budget’ is the same way many other people do. That it is balanced solely from taxation alone. That there has been no increase in government debt over the same fiscal period. To put it another way, everything that the government is spending to provide FOR the public in any given fiscal period is fully recovered FROM the public in taxation in that SAME fiscal period. This is NEVER the case, nor could it be, because if it were the country simply could not progress. Much government expenditure is for assets that will last years, if not decades, into the future. To say that we should fully pay for such assets in ONE year from taxation alone would be make such expenditures financially impossible. There would never be enough money in the country to do that and allow people enough to still live.
Can this poll gives us one more choice? None of the above
I too will abstain from voting in this particular poll, as “none of the above” is not an option.
Besides, abstinence is next to godliness isn’t it?
Or does it make the heart grow fonder, can never remember ;)
metalman.
I thought it was ” abscess makes the fart go honda”… ;)
Just checked the poll! Ataloss was whining that “the vote itself has no credibility as do the reformacons that will be spending their time logging in and out all day.”
So far, Harper’s ahead at 38%, Mulcair second at 34%! so, it would appear that the NDP supporters, or supporter has been just as busy as the reformacons, if you believe what Ataloss says!
Poor Liz still follows the pack, by quite a large margin! Guess the electorate wasn’t impressed by her recent drunken profanity laced tirade!
Doubt most of the electorate was much impressed with her even before her drunken, profanity-laced tirade. Too long without a man. Maybe Bill Clinton can come up and give her some moral support, I read somewhere that they’re supposed to be old friends.
