Burn Fund Benefits From Softball Tourney
Tourney organizers (l-r) Maureen Yeo, Jeff VanDooyeweert present cheque to Healthcare Foundation’s Melissa Veregin
The 1st Annual Volunteer Firefighter Softball Tournament held by the Buckhorn and Pineview Volunteer Firefighters took place on July 25-26, 2015. A committee of four, Jeff VanDooyeweert, Ray Bergey, April Yeo and Maureen Yeo, organized the tournament at Pineview fields that raised over $1,640 for the local Burn Fund.
The annual tournament had 4 teams and also included a very successful silent auction. Thanks to the many generous businesses in town, the silent auction helped raised over half of the proceeds. The entry fees and food purchases also added to the grand total.
“I think this tournament was a huge success!” commented organizer Jeff VanDooyeweert. “ We were able to raise a good chuck of money thanks to the participating teams and donation from local businesses and had lots of fun doing it. Next year we hope to have more teams participate and to raise even more money for the burn unit.”
Teams were made up of local Pineview teams and firefighters. Many of whom camped overnight to fully enjoy their fundraising event. It was a great way to raise funds for local burn victims and support healthcare in the north. This years’ winner team was the Gongshow Sandwiches.
