250 Survey Shows Election Dead Heat

Monday, August 17, 2015 @ 3:59 AM

Prince George, B.C. – The first opinion poll  on the Federal election offered by 250 News shows  Stephen Harper and Thomas Mulcair tied  when it comes to who you think will make the best Prime Minister.

The poll netted 2,422 votes, and  finished with  Stephen Harper garnering  four fewer votes than Thomas Mulcair’s 879, but the difference was not enough to change the percentage.  Both men  finished with a 36% rating.

Justin Trudeau was in third spot with  462 votes (19%)  and Elizabeth May was  fourth with 206 votes (9%).

We will hang on to these results and compare them  with the final tally   following election day.

Today,  we want to  ask you about election signs.  Candidates are always  quick to put them up on boulevards and  at high profile intersections.  But do they  mean anything?

Today’s question  asks “Do election signs help you decide how you are going to vote?

We will share the results with  you  Monday August 24th.

Election signs, it is of my opinion, most people already know who they are voting for, Signs really are just a reminder that these peoples names will be on the ballot. For election like School district and city council, I think signs can be popular be creating familiarity.

In a straw poll, with little significance due to that, Mulcair got four votes more than Harper. This is not a “dead heat”, but an insignificant lead. The point I find interesting is that in elections around PG, Harper Yes Men candidates have garnered over 50% of the votes and certainly in the high 45% range. In this voluntary poll all they could muster was 36% with a few votes less that Mulcair’s people. Does that indicate a fall in fortunes around PG. Are the ridings iopen to change after all?

Prince George has been conservative country for so long I never thought it would change. With Alberta making the surprise switch to NDP I think we might be next. Mind you if it wasn’t Harper running I think the cons would still win this riding hands down. Harper has done such a poor job of running this country into the ground. Setting our environmental policies back 100 years, ruining our international reputation, and coming up with these brutal omnibus bills like C-51 which strip our liberties with the snap of his fingers. We are ready for change!!!

Spelling errors once in a while is one thing but elizabeth (Harper) ? Please edit that.

A moderate amount of election signs helps with name recognition for those who are not connected in social media or directly involved. A flood of election signs is wasteful and an annoyance. Masses of election signs have the opposite effect.

That’s right, Nigebc, both Trudeau or Mulcair could do a far better job of running this country into the ground.

Back to gun control if the NDP get in. And we all remember the debt they caused in BC and every other province that elected them.

Read NDP policy on gun control; official party policy is no gun registry.

X-it. So the 150 billion deeper in debt Harper has done doesn’t count in your eyes? Biggest debt ever by a prime minister, comparably speaking any party could easily do better if they had a bowl of air for finance minister.

X-it, you mean like the debt that went from 36 billion, (under the NDP) up to 136 billion under Christy Clark and Co?

I spelling mistake like that could drive someone to drink.

But that will all be taken care of with LNG right?

@X-it, what was the debt before the NDP in the 90s? What was it in 2001 when the BCLibs took over? What was it when Premier Barbie took over? What is it now? Please research and tell us exactly who has contributed most to the BC debt.

Thank you

There will be gun registry if NDP get in …period, police to track every firearm and look how the police handled high level alberta. Not to mention the last registry cost billions. How anyone can forget what the ndp did to BC economy is mind boggling.

@X-it are you blaming the previous national gun registry on an NDP government? I’m not quite sure.

Since you’re not going to provide the information on the BC debt, I’ll provide it for you.

Net Provincial Debt
1991 – $20B
2001 – $33B
2011 – $45B
2015 – $65B
2017 – $70B (budgeted)

So over the 10 years of NDP gov, $13B was added to the debt. The first 10 years of Libs, a further $12B was added to the debt. Since CC took over, we’ve added a further $20B in debt and are budgeting adding another $5B before 2017. That’s $35B in increased net debt over 16 years, kinda puts the $13B over 10 years in perspective.

Do you also believe the BCLibs are going to pay off the debt and create a $100B prosperity fund with LNG?

I don’t know why the righties are claiming that gun control is inevitable under the NDP. As an NDP member I was under the impression we had no national policy about it. We certainly were not involved in introducing it previously, that was exclusively the federal Liberals. Perhaps they can support their contention with some evidence instead of just spouting “misleading statements” in a biased attempt to discredit the party that is going to form the next government.

Obviously X-it you have forgotten what the NDP did to the provincial economy. Let me remind the righties once agin that the economic growth under the NDP was higher than it has been under the liberals. The NDP have been more successful with the economy than the Liberals. That is what the NDP did to BC’s economy.

We are still struggling to get our mines reopened after the NDP destroyed them, not to mention the logging blundering. Welfare and drugs is where they are at.

Scathing Column In The New York Times Bashes Stephen Harper

A Toronto-based writer has taken to the New York Times to pen a scathing review of Stephen Harper, who is seeking a third term as prime minister.

“The Harper years have seen a subtle darkening of Canadian life,” writes Stephen Marche, a Canadian who has regular columns in both Esquire and the National Post.

“The darkness has resulted, organically, in one of the most scandal-plagued administrations in Canadian history.”

Titled “The Closing of the Canadian Mind,” Marche’s column slams the Conservative government’s culture of secrecy, robocalls, and Harper’s “war on science,” among other topics.

“Americans have traditionally looked to Canada as a liberal haven, with gun control, universal health care and good public education,” says Marche. “But the nine and half years of Mr. Harper’s tenure have seen the slow-motion erosion of that reputation for open, responsible government. His stance has been a know-nothing conservatism, applied broadly and effectively.”

The blistering analysis concludes: “Whether or not he loses, he will leave Canada more ignorant than he found it.”

10 yrs of job training and he still just isn’t ready to be a real PM!

Waiting to read your response X-it to the real numbers in BC. Liberals have been a disaster compared to NDP. Don’t try to change the subject to a few mines… Just apologize for your misinformation and move on. :)

NDP could not make it when times where good, let alone in these years when countries need bailouts just to survive another month or two.

I think the Duffy trial and NDP win in Alberta are currently driving the Mulcair populism. I wouldn’t read too much into that. When people realize he can’t abolish the Senate, this will defuse some of the enthusiasm. He can’t do that because the Supreme Court has ruled that all provinces must agree unanimously to any change and that’s just not going to happen. Also his minimum $15 wage policy will not affect most of those who are thinking they will benefit from it. Only federal gov’t employees will be effected as minimum wages are provincial, not federal jurisdiction.

Election signs. No, they do not help me choose an candidate, they do help with who the nominee is for a party in a riding. They should change 100$ a day fine for every sign left up after election day. Here and there is fine, but one every 50 f’in meters up and down the boulevards is rediculous.

X-it, yes. I see you are ignoring the facts..just like any minion con.. It helps when you think for yourself and don’t believe the political commercials.. Do your own research on the numbers..

As for the signs.. I feel the more signs someone has up the more worried they are..and they are hoping name recognition will get them votes.. What works best is telling the voters what you are going to do, and how you are going to pay for it.
